The Matchbox Theater is a studio performance venue for live theater, music, comedy improv, specialty acts, and special events. The theater is located underground at 5456 Nicollet Avenue, S in the Windom neighborhood in Southwest Minneapolis. Douglas Stewart, Producing Artistic Director, is looking for a creative partner that can direct and teach in the theater. The theater seeks to perform original works as well as plays written by mainstream contemporary and classical playwrights. The theater also provides professional acting training for youth and adults in film/television/stage and voice-over.
The Matchbox Theater produced a highly successful production of Will Enos' THOM PAIN, (a play about nothing) to sellout audiences last April. The production starred actor William Hoeschler and was produced and directed by Douglas Stewart. This past summer, the theater conducted three intensive acting workshops for youth in film/television and comedy improv.
The Matchbox Theater welcomes volunteers and also offers internships and ongoing opportunities to persons particularly interested in the areas of techncial production including lighting, sound, costumes, makeup, and stage management. General auditions for actors are held once a year or by special arrangement.
