BEOWULF - with Pop-up Dramaturgy!
translated and adapted by CHARLIE BETHEL
performed by JOHN HEIMBUCH
directed by AMY RUMMENIE
dramaturgy by SARAH HELLER
promotional art by ERIK A. EVENSEN

Walking Shadow Co-Artistic Director John Heimbuch performs Charlie Bethel's fierce hourlong retelling of Beowulf.

This is a faithful and accessible adaptation of the classic Old English poem about a warrior king and some famous monsters, modernizing the wit, vigor, and meaty language of the original Anglo-Saxon epic.

Available until May 31.

This is the archived video from April 2, 2020, with optional pop-up dramaturgy.

  1. You do not need a Facebook account to view.
  2. Skip to about 13 minutes in (after the “preshow” for the live audience to settle in).
  3. Optional: go to the sidebar on the right and set the pulldown menu to “realtime comments” for Sarah Heller’s pop-up dramaturgy to appear at the correct points in the video.

THIS EVENT IS FREE. (If you're inspired to donate, there's a link there too.)

Runtime: approximately one hour.

Content Warning: Beowulf contains vivid descriptions of physical human/monster violence. Please contact us with any specific questions about content.
