Drama

Set in mid-century Atlanta, the play, Driving Miss Daisy, tells the story of an elderly Jewish matron, Daisy Werthan, and her chauffeur, Hoke Coleburn. At first, Daisy is none to happy about being forced to rely on a black man to get from one place to the next. Gradually, however, Hoke wins her over, and during the 25-year span of the play, the two develop a deep-rooted affection.

This Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece is a delicate depiction of simmering racial tensions, the inevitable passage of time, and the universal experience of aging. Playwright Alfred Uhry creates two outsiders who come to a mutual respect, each one grounded in their staunch independence, unbending strength, and stubborn integrity. In 1988, Driving Miss Daisy won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Best Off-Broadway Play. The play was then produced as a Hollywood movie starring Jessica Tandy, Morgan Freeman and Dan Akroyd. In 1990, the movie version won 4 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Makeup. Don’t miss this LIVE performance of a timeless masterpiece with Mary Kay Fortier-Spalding as Daisy, Eric Wood as Hoke, and Dann Peterson as Boolie!
