MANKATO, MN -- Merely Players Community Theatre opens their final production of the 2016-17 Season, The Dixie Swim Club, on Friday, May 12.

The Dixie Swim Club is the story of five Southern women who meet one long weekend every August to recharge lifelong relationships first formed after meeting through their college swim team. Free from husbands, kids, and jobs, they gather at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the things that life flings at them.

This production sees the return of several Merely Players veterans: Maggie Maes, Cindy Olson, and Carol Rath. Maes is directing, while Olson and Rath return to the main-stage after long hiatuses (12 and 10 years respectively) bringing life to the characters of Vernadette (Olson), the self-deprecating and acerbic one, and Dinah (Rath), the wisecracking, overachiever, career dynamo. The power-house acting ensemble is rounded out by Laura Anthony Conn playing the role of super-organizer Sheree, and newcomers Christi Smith as Lexie, a southern belle who is neither short on charm nor husbands, and Lisa Noll portraying sweet but not entirely innocent Jeri Neal.

“We have had so much fun bringing this show to life,” Maes said. “It’s beautifully written, and it’s such a pleasure to work with amazing actors on a piece that celebrates friendship in such a funny and poignant way. Audiences will be thoroughly entertained and moved by this story”. Performances are May 12, 13, 19, and 20 at 7:30 p.m. and May 14 and 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Community Center Auditorium in Mankato.
