"CARTESIAN, adj. Relating to Descartes, a famous philosopher, author of the celebrated dictum, 'Cogito ergo sum' — whereby he was pleased to suppose he demonstrated the reality of human existence. The dictum might be improved, however, thus: 'Cogito cogito ergo cogito sum' — 'I think that I think, therefore I think that I am;' as close an approach to certainty as any philosopher has yet made. "
- Ambrose Bierce

ABOUT THE SHOW

Have you ever imagined a world whose laws of physics differed from our own? In our current dystopian future, the Not-So-Silent Planet is entering cyberspace. Listen to some of the most frequent contributors to the country's only recurring open-mic dedicated to speculative fiction: fantasy, sci-fi, or supernatural horror!

In our sixth season finale, our tellers are tackling nothing less than the stuff of consciousness itself: of uploaded brains and malevolent AIs and alien intellects. Featuring original fiction by regulars Ben San Del, the Reverend Pat D, Jeff Henry, and Joshua English Scrimshaw, with Bryn J. Tanner of Albino Squirrel Productions as our special guest teller! Tune in, and hear about places of which you've never dreamt.

WARNING: while we appreciate the importance of safe spaces, we also appreciate the importance of unsafe spaces, in which writers can experiment with edgier material. None of the stories are screened, and performers may present adult content. We’re free-speech absolutists, and recognize that that occasionally comes at an uncomfortable price.

Growing poetry and storytelling one word at a time, Word Sprout is based in Minneapolis and specializes in producing and capturing Live Literature at its finest. We are committed to providing both open forums and curated stages for people to embrace and share the words that are most important to them in storytelling, poetry, and genre bending verbal explosions.

PRAISE FOR THE NOT-SO-SILENT PLANET

"It shouldn’t be a surprise to you that ultra-hip MPLS + STPL has an open mic night dedicated to...sci-fi, fantasy, tales of the supernatural and such. It also shouldn’t be a surprise that the quality of the material is higher than an H.G. Wells zeppelin."
- Hitara, Secrets of the City

"...that was some delightfully trippy shit...mind-bendingly strange and fun...they burrow into your mind and keep you thinking about them long after they’re done."
- Matthew Everett, Single White Fringe Geek
