The Northfield Arts Guild Theater presents a Purple Door Youth Theater production of The Wizard of Oz.   This production is sure to delight adults and children alike. Performances at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater, 411 Third Street West, Northfield are on February 22-24 and March 1-3, 2019.  Feb 22, March 1 and March 2 performances are at 7:30 pm, and the February 23, 24 and March 3 performances are 2:00pm matinees.

The Wizard of Oz is an all-student production. The show features 39 student actors and 15 student theater technicians in grades 2-11 from Northfield, Faribault, and Waterville.

When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tinman who is missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. The wizard asks the group to extinguish the Wicked Witch of the West to earn his help.  In this family-friendly, non-musical adaptation by Rochelle Norbert four unlikely friends discover wisdom, compassion, courage, and the way home.

Director, Rachel Haider, won the 2018 Best of Southern MN Scene award for Best Director and her Purple Door Youth Theater production of Les Miserables won Best Production.
