Storytelling, Experimental

Z Puppets Rosenschnoz welcomes you to take a place at the table for a uniquely intimate puppetry experience intertwining stories of the Crossing of the Red Sea and the Trail of Tears. Take the next step forward through life's narrow passages!

"It felt like a spell was over the whole place; like it was alive with all the ancestors of that place and all of us who were there."  audience member

WATCH IT
First, award-winning puppetry artists Shari Aronson and Chris Griffith share stories of two characters from their own ancestry: a 3500 yr.-old woman, pivotal to the Jews crossing of the Red Sea, and a 6-yr old Cherokee boy bearing witness to the Trail of Tears. Sliding across centuries and continents with the "whirled" music of Greg Herriges as a guide, the stories travel the rich emotional landscape from struggle to triumph. Directed by Laurie Witzkowski.

MAKE IT
Then, Z Puppets artists will lead you through simple steps to make power figures  small puppets to represent someone to call on for strength when facing hardship.

TAKE IT
Bring your power figure with you for when you need to find the next step through life's narrow passages.

Each event is limited to 25 seats.

Through the Narrows features some intense subject matter and descriptions of historically accurate violence. Recommended for adults and youth ages 9+.
