A boy. A girl. A nurse's office. One of them, an accident-prone goofball and the other a darkly witty cynic. Follow thirty years in the friendship of Kayleen and Doug, whose interactions happen at some of the most pivotal moments they will ever experience. See the nature of a deep relationship that will transcend even the most bizarre circumstances, and decide for yourself which scars run deeper: the physical, or the psychological.

2010 Pulitzer Price Finalist, Rajiv Joseph, is the genius playwright behind Gruesome Playground Injuries:

"Rajiv Joseph is an artist of original talent." —NY Times. "Irresistibly odd and exciting…This darkly humorous drama is Rajiv Joseph's most satisfying work." —NY Daily News. "This wondrous strange two-hander finds as much humor as horror in the play's bizarre events." —Variety. "Mystical, arresting, and quirkily amusing." —Washington Post.

The Pursuit of Awesome

7:00 pm
Runs 60 minutes

  • Opening night

Intermedia Arts
2822 LYNDALE AVE SOUTH MINNEAPOLIS, MN 55408

  • Comedy
  • Storytelling

Through juggling stunts, snow-shovel acrobatics, and comic dancing, David shares his embarrassments, failures, and advice in the pursuit of awesome.

In his new show, The Pursuit of Awesome, David Harris performs unusual stories, stunts, and physical comedy. Why? Because it will be awesome! David always wanted to be awesome. In 1983, he tried to ride his Huffy bicycle up a tree. Had he made it to the top it would have been awesome. In 1985, he took jazz dancing lessons at Colleen's School of Dance. Why? Because he thought he signed up for Break Dancing lessons and that would have been awesome! In 2014, he learned how to balance a knife on his tongue. Why? Because the path toward awesome is easily confused with the path toward being reckless and weird.

Music by: Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by: Tim Rice

Directed and Choreographed by Michael Matthew Ferrell

Music Director: Denise Prosek

“… a fun night of quick-paced theatrical entertainment.” (Katherine Waddell, Broadway World Review)

Joseph is an ageless tale set to a bold new beat in Director/Choreographer Michael Matthew Ferrell’s staging. Reimagined to reflect Ferrell’s lyrical and athletic styles, this story about overcoming odds and fulfilling one’s destiny will captivate contemporary audiences of all ages. Featuring one of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s catchiest scores in a myriad of musical styles, Joseph tells the tale of a young dreamer haunted by prophetic visions that he will one day rule over his eleven jealous brothers.  Fueled by animosity, his brothers sell Joseph into slavery in dangerous and unfamiliar Egypt, where he must find his own way and face the greatest trials of his life.
