Grounded in the story of their friendship, the show offers a perspective on their lives that is strikingly relevant, richly complex, and yet utterly simple. Nature is performed outdoors as a “walking play.” A professional ensemble of actors takes the audience on a journey through Washburn-Fair Oaks Park as scenes unfold around them. Bagpipes, ancient flutes, drums and rich choral arrangements are intricately woven into the experience. Nature is an extraordinary, family-friendly journey that co-mingles story, spirit, and nature, as a means to reconnect its audience with the natural world.

Presented by Theatre Novi Most

Theatre Novi Most presents the world premiere of a new bilingual play by Adam Kraar about the tumultuous marriage of American modern dance pioneer Isadora Duncan and Russian poet Sergei Esenin. Dancing on the Edge takes place in Russia, Boston and Europe at the dawn of the Soviet Union and follows the passionate pairing of these two celebrated artists, set against a poetic examination of Russian-American relations.

The play is an unflinching look at a cross-cultural and complex couple who rode through the tumultuous birth of the USSR together with shared passion but no common spoken language. The play includes text in both Russian and English and has embedded within it several of Duncan’s dances and Esenin’s poems. Adam Kraar’s play was commissioned by Theatre Novi Most. It has been in development since 2011.

Attacked by skeptics, the press and Woolsey’s jealous widow, Myra sets out to prove she is more than just an artful forger. Is she trying to steal Woolsey’s legacy now that she cannot have his love, or might she truly possess a gift the world can’t understand? The Philadelphia Inquirer calls Ghost-Writer a “tantalizing, understated and lovely” romance about the power of the written word and the wonder of creativity.

We Had A Second Bathroom

7:30 pm
Runs 80 minutes

Phoenix Theater
2605 Hennepin Avenue Minneapolis, MN 55408

Presented by Eva Adderley and Jordan Lee Thompson
  • Drama
  • Comedy

Based (very loosely) on true events, We Had A Second Bathroom is about a young woman who returns to her childhood home where she rediscovers a room that her family had forgotten about for years. Opening the door leads her down a rabbit hole of self-discovery as strange things start to emerge from the forgotten room, including memories and fantastical characters from the Queendom of Zor, an imaginary realm that she and her best friend created as children.

Playwright, designer, and metalsmith Eva Adderley and media artist, director, and educator Jordan Lee Thompson—longtime friends and brand new artistic collaborators—presented We Had A Second Bathroom as a work in progress as part of Savage Umbrella’s Night of New Works in May of 2017. We developed the script with the help of an amazing ensemble of actors (Joni Griffith, Helena Mueller, Nayely Becerra, Kit Bix, and Meagan Kedrowski). We are thrilled to say to two members of our original ensemble, Helena and Nayely, will be joining us for the full production. We are equally excited about the new faces we have in our cast: Lillian Noonan, Natalie Turner, Renee Werbowski, Rob Ward, Andrew Lindvall, and Juliette Aaslestad. Also on board are Ben Harvey as sound and lighting designer, Steve Looten Jr. as fight choreographer, and Sarah Maxwell as Stage Manager.

In the last year as We Had A Second Bathroom has been developed, we have been forced to ponder notions of collective forgetting and the falsehoods we share, in both the larger culture and the intimately personal. This play is imaginative, surprising, and intimate, and the incorporation of improv means it will change every night. The audiences of each performance will share a unique experience, and we hope that you will join us for one of them.

Einstein: A Stage Portrait, written by Willard Simms and starring Thomas Schuch is a play which has been described as The official, commemorative Einstein!” (Dan Sullivan, LA Times). The playwright had this to say of Thomas Schuch’s performance: “In the last 20 years of seeing many productions of my one-person play about Albert Einstein, Mr. Schuch's portrayal best captures the impish humor and the deep humanity of the great genius who called himself "the man whose name everyone knows and whose theory no one understands!"

John Prine

Fri, Sep 8, 8:00 pm

Carlson Family Stage

Long considered a "songwriter's songwriter," John Prine is a rare talent who writes the songs other songwriters would sell their souls for. Evidence of this is the long list of songwriters who have recorded gems from his extensive catalog, including Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, the Everly Brothers, John Denver, Kris Kristofferson, Carly Simon, Ben Harper, Joan Baez, and many others.

With immeasurable accolades, including two Grammys and the distinction of being one of the few songwriters honored by the Library of Congress and U.S. Poet Laureate, Prine is more than a musician, he is an American treasure.

With more than 2,000 cans and over 650 bottles of beer consumed onstage, Shit-Faced Shakespeare has racked up impressive numbers. Ripping a page out of the ingeniously sloppy series Drunk History, the theater troupe behind Shit-Faced Shakespeare inserts an entirely inebriated cast member into an entirely serious production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Laugh-out-loud funny and completely interactive, the series has been selling out shows in the UK since 2010 and has finally made its way stateside. With a different drunk actor each night, no two performances are ever the same. And lest you think it disrespectful, it's all based on the good 'ole days of the raucous, interactive and vibrant Elizabethan theater scene. The most fun, bawdy Shakespeare play you'll ever see happens at Bryant-Lake Bowl.
