Theatre Coup d’Etat presents Moby Dick, a new original adaptation from the novel by Herman Melville, performing November 3 - 20, 7:30pm at Fallout Arts Initiative Co-op Studio 3 in Minneapolis.

MINNEAPOLIS – Herman Melville’s Moby Dick has been called the “greatest American novel”. This adaptation illustrates what truly makes America great - diversity, inclusion, and hard work. Coup d’Etat’s Moby Dick is the story of a diverse crew of sailors working during the height of the whaling industry, as told through the eyes of a callow narrator, Ishmael. The hunt this time, however, is for the leviathan that took the leg and splintered the mind of Captain Ahab, a man haunted by demons of his own making. Under the wisdom and guidance of the great harpooner Queequeg, Ishmael gives us a lens into a world of cultural unity, moral and ethical conflict, and what it means to depend on the person next to you in a dangerous world where each day could be your last.

Two-time Ivey Award-winning Theatre Coup d’Etat is proud to present this world premier in the Twin Cities. Combining actor-driven movement, live sound-scaping and music, and the intimate seating of Fallout Arts Initiative Co-op Studio 3, Theatre Coup d’Etat’s production of Moby Dick is another can’t-miss experience.

Set in an imagined future where self-control is the single most important quality in human development, Trial Child, a robotic replica of a couple's would-be child, is the newest technology. Through the use of an extended audio track, Wagner activates viewer imagination by weaving characters between the physical and the imaginary. Trial Childhumorously addresses issues surrounding the cyborg identity and our growing personification of robotics in relation to gender, identity, technological absurdity and family politics.

Scotty Wagner and Bailey Hikawa are a collaborative duo from Los Angeles who focus on experimental forms of storytelling in theatrical, physical installation and moving image forms. Their projects address social, cultural and animal/physical norms that are illuminated and challenged by new technologies. They explore ways in which pleasure indulgence and self-control are confronted by technologies that target core human senses and how shifts in family politics are brought about by new parent/child dynamics through the evolving human/cyborg identity. Trial Child: Nurture a Better Nature is their most recent visually delicious cultural commentary.

Through juggling stunts, snow-shovel acrobatics, and comic dancing, David shares his embarrassments, failures, and advice in the pursuit of awesome.

In The Pursuit of Awesome, David Harris performs unusual stories, stunts, and physical comedy. Why? Because it will be awesome! David always wanted to be awesome. In 1983, he tried to ride his Huffy bicycle up a tree. Had he made it to the top it would have been awesome. In 1985, he took jazz dancing lessons at Colleen's School of Dance. Why? Because he thought he signed up for Break Dancing lessons and that would have been awesome! In 2014, he learned how to balance a knife on his tongue. Why? Because the path toward awesome is easily confused with the path toward being reckless and weird.

By Donald Margulies
Based on "The Loudest Voice" by Grace Paley
Directed by Elena Gianetti

This area premiere has been described as an “incredible enchantment” by the L.A. Times, Coney Island Christmas introduces us to Shirley Abramowitz, a young Jewish girl who, much to her immigrant parents’ exasperation, is cast as Jesus in the school’s Christmas pageant. As Shirley, now much older, recounts the memorable story to her great-granddaughter, the play captures a timeless and universal tale of what it means to be an American during the holiday season.

Pulitzer Prize winner Donald Margulies weaves together nostalgia, music, and merriment in this new seasonal classic for people of all ages and all faiths.

The year is 1913. Progress runs on coal, but the immigrant miners from southern Colorado are being squeezed beyond endurance.
They work the seam while corporate forces arrayed against them spy, manipulate and disrupt, crushing any hint of “union.” Yet the
workers and their families lean on one another, wait, hope…and plan.

How far will the company go? When will the pawns realize that together they are strong? But the chess board squares are all coal
black in Las Animas County, near the River of the Lost Souls in Purgatory. And the flames are getting closer.

Nimbus brings you the fearsome saga of the Ludlow massacre, the deadliest labor dispute in American history.
