Ah, love. Young and gooey, explosive and fiery, brotherly, unrequited, enduring. A Midsummer Night’s Dream revels in the myriad ways we find to love one another and the lengths we go in order to build and protect our most precious relationships.

Often called “an almost perfect play,” Shakespeare’s comedy tumbles out of the city into a fantastical wilderness of moonlight and magic as lovers and would-be poets  – seeking  freedom, romance and inspiration – stumble upon the forest realm of the fairy king and queen. What follows is a fast-paced, hilarious and heartfelt adventure where ridiculous antics lead to magical moments in unexpected ways.

Thomas is a playwright-slash-director, desperately in need of an actress. A young-ish actress. A beautiful-slash-sexy actress. A sexy-slash-articulate young actress with some classical training and a particle of brain in her skull. Enter Vanda. The resulting action is more complex, and more important, than any audition.

Venus in Fur, by David Ives, is a play that has only grown more relevant since its debut in 2010 – a provocative exploration of gender roles and the intricate dynamic of artistic collaboration. The question is: can Vanda trust Thomas to open up his eyes, and see the woman standing next to him?

Contains very strong language and sensual content. Suitable for people aged over 16.

For the first time in its history, the Guthrie will host Austin, TX-based theater collective Rude Mechs (aka Rude Mechanicals) in a development residency to present their latest original work Not Every Mountain, a beguiling meditation on change and permanence. Set against the backdrop of a soft-spoken rumination on life, relationships and ephemerality, performers use simple elements like string, cardboard and magnets to make giant mountains slowly rise, shift and grow. With some help from the audience, the mountains come alive, the seasons change and the moon makes its way across the sky. Since 1995, Rude Mechs has created and produced a genre-defying slate of original works in Texas and toured nationally and abroad. Not Every Mountain is the first episode in Perverse Results, the ensemble’s long-form experiment in episodic collaboration.

Not Every Mountain was created in collaboration with the full ensemble. The style, structure, pace and performance were collectively arranged.

Unfortunately, Bertram thinks Helena is beneath him, and abruptly leaves her. What follows is a “problem play,” a story of forgiveness, grace, and learning to have humility as we mature which is as messy and beautiful as a life well lived.
