Cyrano de Bergerac is the full package: he’s a poet, playwright and consummate swordsman. The only thing standing in the way of declaring his love for Roxane is his grotesquely large nose. When Roxane confesses that she’s fallen for a handsome young cadet named Christian, Cyrano takes him under his wing, adds brains to his beauty and, through Christian, expresses his own feelings to Roxane without her suspecting a thing. Wit, wordplay and rousing passion make this a heroic comedy for the ages.

It’s been two years since Fiona and Guy’s son Tristan disappeared, and while Fiona endlessly travels through her memories of him, Guy’s frustration and inability to understand her grows. Along the way, the two lose their ability to speak plainly. Familiar phrases start to jumble and change meaning—somber words become punchlines and reassuring words lose their solace. By turns playful, tragic and vulnerable, Lauren Yee’s in a word explores how the language we use changes our reality and shows us that dealing with loss is a lifelong process.

A play in music written in 1937, THE CRADLE WILL ROCK by Marc Blitzstein is set in Steeltown, USA. Mr. Mister, the corporate magnate, has bought up (or paid off) every sector of the community: the church, the press, the university, the artists. A prostitute arrives in Steeltown, and is immediately picked up for soliciting. Hauled into night court, she is befriended by a derelict pharmacist, who explains that all the others (who have been hauled in mistakenly) are as guilty of selling themselves as she is. Through flashback and song, the piece illustrates how each of the civic leaders sold out to Mr. Mister, with the exception of Larry Foreman, a union organizer who is attempting to get the whole town to organize.

One of the first pro-union musicals written in this country, THE CRADLE WILL ROCK, directed by Orson Welles, was premiered by the Federal Theatre Project. This first production was legendary (the context for the original production is explored brilliantly in Tim Robbins film of the same name). Just before opening night, the company received word that budget cuts would prevent the show from opening and the artists were padlocked out of the building. In a historic display of the show must go on, the company and audience marched 20 blocks to a theatre that the company had secured, along with a rented piano, and the show did go on.

crucifixion, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew,
Mark, Luke, and John, Superstar follows, the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told
entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus,
Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers and the Roman Empire. Well-known
songs include “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” and “Gethsemane.” A true

COLLIDE presents a contemporary version of Oscar Wilde’s classic novel premiering March 22- April 7 at Park Square Theatre. Set in modern day New York City, the story follows a beautiful young Dorian Gray who stumbles into an accidental photo opportunity and shoots to heights of social media fame. Disturbed that her physical beauty will deteriorate with age, Dorian wishes for eternal youth. Her wish is granted, and the photo rather than the woman degrades as she pursues a life of corruption and debauchery, reminding her that though her looks are unscathed, her soul is not. Can she still find salvation? Or is her soul trapped in the photograph?

This production features an all-female cast and music by female singer/songwriters from the 1990s to today.  Brittany Keefe (James Sewell Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet) plays the title role of Dorian Gray alongside lead dancers Heather Brockman (Ballet of the Dolls), and Chelsea Rose (Collide’s The Great Gatsby). Vocalists Katie Bradley (The Guthrie Theater) and Katie Gearty (Dakota Jazz Club) headline the band with music direction by Shannon van der Reck. The ensemble is rounded out by Rebecca Abroe, Grace Janiszewski, Grace Kidder, Betsy Nelson, Callie Rosenbaum, and Morgen Chang.

In 2018, Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court amid allegations of sexual assault. For the first time in years, Roe v. Wade fell into constitutional danger. At the same time, the #metoo movement sparked a national dialogue around power and consent, and record numbers of women ran for public office and won. In a country continuing to fracture along political fault lines, women were on the frontlines of the divide. Following the tradition of The Great Divide I & II, Pillsbury House Theatre has commissioned five short plays on the state of women in the current political climate. Featuring all-women playwrights, actresses, and production staff, She Persists: The Great Divide III is a theatrical experience by, for, and about women.
