Set inside a cardboard tv studio, "It’s All Real..." will glissade between precise technique and pedestrian efficiency as the performance degrades into a glitchy and unstable representation of itself.

Taking cues from reality television, talk shows, and social media, we neither represent, nor offer any solution to, contemporary life’s screen-based alienation and and anxieties. Instead we aim to unsettle the frame dividing real from fake and move through the fading illusion.

What's left at the end may be humbling and surprising.

This performance embodies DaNCEBUMS’ spirit of friendship and interdisciplinary innovation by continuing our collaboration with musical wünderkind Eric Mayson and under-the-radar visual artist/designer Matt Gorrie.

Expect humor, groove, exertion, and extreme bliss.

In the madcap comedy tradition of Lend Me a Tenor, the hilarious Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950s.  At the moment, they're playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo, New York with five actors.  On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George's dalliance with a young ingenue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom:  Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his move remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel.  Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughter's clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they're actually performing, caused by Charlotte's deaf old stage-manager mother who hates every bone in George's body.

Christopher Chen’s highly entertaining dark comedy doesn’t begin onstage — it opens with an art exhibition featuring the work of Chinese artist Lin Bo. After the audience views his art and takes their seats, Bo arrives and shares stories about his life and work as a dissident artist in China. But when a New York reporter and her editor join him onstage, everything shifts and nothing is what it seems, leaving the audience to question what is real, what is illusion and what is a figment of their imagination.

A new piece about apocalypse, chaos, and hope.
A taxonomy of failed utopian impulses.
A cycle of nostalgic atrophy.
The urge to transcend cyclic utopian collapse.
Tenderness, danger, migration, apocalyptic beauty.
Drawing into rather sharp relief our cultural desire for a simple, singular answer.
Toward a pursuit of possibility.
How we might reorganize the vast detritus of the world to build some semblance of safety and then pleasure.
We are living in the space of that edge right now.

Featuring performances from Erika Hansen, Megan Mayer, Felipe Mafasoli, and Charles Campbell.
Installation by Jess Kiel-Wornson.
Sound design and original music by Mike Hallenbeck.
Lighting by Heidi Eckwall.

Obstructed views only!
