Meanwhile, Lina’s squeaky voice might be the end of her career in “talking pictures” without the help of a talented young actress to do the talking and singing for her.

In the madcap comedy tradition of Lend Me a Tenor, the hilarious Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950s.  At the moment, they're playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo, New York with five actors.  On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George's dalliance with a young ingenue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom:  Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his move remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel.  Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughter's clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they're actually performing, caused by Charlotte's deaf old stage-manager mother who hates every bone in George's body.

What Are You? is a BAND Cabaret night of song and tales where performers tell their stories about being falsely boxed in to casting based on the color tone of their skin. Oftentimes theater and film producers and directors think in black and white terms ("what color are you?") when exploring diversity in their casting and hiring practices, but heritage and culture is deeper and more nuanced, and this night you'll experience meaningful stories and songs from performers about their heritage and the reasons it defines them. This cabaret features Twin Cities talents Kiko Laureano, Gabrielle Dominique, Adan Varela, and more! The evening will end with a post-show gathering and conversation with the performers.

In keeping with the mission of BAND Cabaret, this cabaret will spotlight the work of Youth Link, whose mission is to support and empower young people on their journey to self-reliance and whose vision is a community in which all youth, without regard to their living situation, have an equal opportunity to pursue their goals and dreams, and have an equal likelihood of achieving them. More info at youthlinkmn.org

BAND Cabaret is an ongoing Twin Cities cabaret based at Bryant Lake Bowl & Theater that focuses on serving those that serve others. Through The BAND Group's mission to bring awareness and exposure to other nonprofits, every night brings a new nonprofit to new audiences, connecting performers and people with the good work that’s being performed in our community.

Sunday, May 26 at 7:00pm (doors at 6:00) $10/$8 in advance

Set inside a cardboard tv studio, "It’s All Real..." will glissade between precise technique and pedestrian efficiency as the performance degrades into a glitchy and unstable representation of itself.

Taking cues from reality television, talk shows, and social media, we neither represent, nor offer any solution to, contemporary life’s screen-based alienation and and anxieties. Instead we aim to unsettle the frame dividing real from fake and move through the fading illusion.

What's left at the end may be humbling and surprising.

This performance embodies DaNCEBUMS’ spirit of friendship and interdisciplinary innovation by continuing our collaboration with musical wünderkind Eric Mayson and under-the-radar visual artist/designer Matt Gorrie.

Expect humor, groove, exertion, and extreme bliss.
