2017-18 Children's Theatre Company Performing Apprentice

Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the leading theatre for multigenerational audiences in the nation, is currently seeking two African American Performing Apprentices for our upcoming and highly anticipated 2017-2018 Season, which will feature multiple musicals.

As Performing Apprentices at CTC, these young artists are given the opportunity to prepare for the beginning of their professional career as performers in a professional setting.  Apprentices act in lead roles, ensemble roles, understudy, and participate in readings and workshops of new works.  They also have the unique opportunity to perform on our stages alongside our Resident Company members, student actors, as well as locally, nationally and internationally renowned guest artists.

CTC has proudly received a Tony Award for Sustained Excellence and has just concluded its 50th Anniversary Season with 5 world premieres, including the world premiere of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical with Producer Kevin McCollum (Rent, In the Heights, Avenue Q) and Fox Stage Productions, as well as a transfer to the Arena Stage in Washington, DC of its production of Akeelah and the Bee directed by Charles Randolph Wright (Motown: the Musical).

CTC’s 51st 2017-2018 Season will be featuring multiple world premieres, national and international partnerships and large-scale musicals. CTC operates out of its three theatre complex with a 746-seat proscenium theater, a 299-seat reconfigurable theater and a 100-seat teaching theater.  It is also one of the few theatre companies in the country to have a Resident Equity Acting Company and a resident composer.

Ideal candidates will be recent college graduates that have strong dance and vocal ability/training.

Unlike other apprenticeships where you pay to participate, the Children’s Theatre Company Performing Apprentice Program pays YOU. Apprentices are paid a weekly salary of $455, participate in company health insurance and receive 15 weeks EMC credit. There is no crew, strike, or other technical requirement. PA contract for next season will likely span a full year from August 2017-August 2018.

We ask that any/all auditions be submitted via DVD, YouTube (private link), or other online sharing website- Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. and all vocal selections be accompanied.

Please submit two contrasting monologues: one contemporary, one classical: no more than two minutes per monologue as well as two contrasting 32-bar cuts of a vocal selection: one in a musical theatre canon and one from a contemporary pop song.

We ask that you ‘slate’ at the top of your audition with your pieces listed in order: “Hello, my name is _____ and I will be performing (monologue title/play/playwright) and singing (Song title/show/composer).”

And please attach the listed paperwork:  Performing Apprentice Audition Form, conflict form- list any weddings, vacations, etc over the course of the Apprenticeship program dates, which, at this time, is slated for August, 2017 to August, 2018 (beginning date may change slightly), and an updated headshot and resume.

Send all submissions with your name, followed by ‘PA Audition’ in the subject line to auditions@childrenstheatre.org

All submissions must be received by Friday, April 7th, 2017.
