Dr. Falstaff and the Working Wives of Lake County: A Picnic Operetta (2018)
A new adaptation of Otto Nicolai's 1849 opera, The Merry Wives of Windsor. Our version is set in Northern Minnesota in the late 1970s during the landmark legal battles surrounding environmental protection and the mining industry. Created by artistic director Scotty Reynolds, music director Gary Ruschman. This year's production will be led by director Kym Longhi. Our adaptation will also feature the music of Bruce Springsteen. (yes, that means German Romantic opera with the music of The Boss)
CASTING ALL VOICE TYPES (There are roles for soprano, mezzo, tenor, and bass)
With your appointment, you will be shared a file of musical sides that are suggested for this audition. Pick the musical selection appropriate for your voice. They are not required, just encouraged.
Classical singers and performers who play instruments strongly encouraged to audition. We also cast actors with strong musicianship who are skilled with physical theater. The best candidates for this project can switch fluidly between multiple genres. We are seeking performers who are at ease using their body and text to create characters. Performers of color STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to audition.
Our 2018 tour dates include 8 - 10 performances in the metro area and 3 - 5 performances in greater Minnesota.
Rehearsals begin in mid July, Performances August 11th - September 28th. (These dates are approximate, touring dates being confirmed with presenters in January)
We offer a competitive stipend for professional performers. We value equality in our casting and creative process.
Apprentice performers and youth will be offered a stipend. Apprentice performers will have opportunities to cover lead roles. All performers provided housing, per diem and mileage, included for all out of town travel. This is a fun gig.

With your audition, we will share a file of selections from the opera, including selections for all voice types. If you'd like to prepare your own selection, please prepare an aria or pop song that shows off your range, German language and the music of Bruce Springsteen, strongly encouraged!
Please, no Jason Robert Brown or contemporary musical theatre - this is not that kind of show.
Now in its 10th year, the Picnic Operetta is an annual harvest celebration touring to community gardens, urban farms, orchards, and vineyards. We bring new life to old stories through music, movement, and visual extravaganza.
