Assistant Professor, Theater and Dance

The Hamline University Department of Theatre & Dance invites applications for a tenure-track position in the teaching of acting and directing at the assistant professor level to begin in fall 2018. The position requires an MFA in actor training and performance, excitement to provide vision and leadership for performance training in a four-member department, and experience approaching actor and director training from a variety of methodologies. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to broad liberal arts and interdisciplinary education, excellent teaching skills, willingness to teach and support diverse students, and the ability to develop a productive research program involving undergraduate researchers. Candidates should be able to teach courses in acting and directing/devising, script analysis, and direct one mainstage production each year. Experience applying theatre to social and political issues and concerns is desirable as is interest in collaborative work across the Fine Arts. Hamline faculty currently have a six-course annual teaching load, with a course release in the first year for professional development and semester pre-tenure release pending successful third-year review.
