Auditions for '42nd Street' at St. Matthew Community Theater

St. Matthew's Community Theater is proud to announce auditions for their annual spring musical, ‘42nd Street.’

'42nd Street’ is an American musical with a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, lyrics by Al Dubin and Johnny Mercer, and music by Harry Warren.

A love letter to Broadway, ‘42nd Street’ is all about what the actors and artistic staff experience as they work together to put up a show.  The story follows fresh-off-the-bus Peggy as she’s cast in her first Broadway show as a chorus girl, and then rises to stardom. Meanwhile, leading lady Dorothy Brock questions if audience applause is really all she needs in life.

Auditions:
Sunday, January 12 from 12 pm - 3 pm
Wednesday, January 15 from 7 pm - 10 pm
Sunday, January 19 from 12 pm - 3 pm

Callbacks (if needed): Tuesday, January 21 from 7 pm - 10 pm (may start a little earlier, if possible, 6 pm at the earliest).

Please come prepared with a resume and a list of conflicts between January 31st and May 3rd. Photos will be taken at auditions, but you may bring a headshot if you like. Please dress for movement, as there will be a dance component as well as singing and reading from the show. Plan to bring jazz/character shoes and tap shoes if you have them.  You do not need to prepare a song or monologue; we will be using songs from the show.

ALL ROLES ARE AVAILABLE, and we are considering all genders for several supporting/featured roles as well.

This show is a very dance-featured show, so we are looking for tappers especially, but other musical theatre styles as well.  Not all leads or performers will need to be strong dancers or tappers. Please see the attached character breakdown for the roles and their required dance skills.

Performances:
April 23, 24, 25, 30 & May 1, 2 at 7 pm
April 26 & May 3 at 2 pm

Our rehearsals are held on Friday evenings, and Sunday afternoons, as well as some Sunday evenings (for larger roles) until the week leading up to the show, where we will be rehearsing that Monday-Wednesday as well.

All rehearsals and performances will take place at St. Matthew Lutheran Church:
4101 Washington St NE, Columbia Heights, MN 55421
