Romeo and Juliet is a timeless classic that has been told time and again the world over. We’re all familiar with the tale of the star crossed lovers meeting and falling for one another in an instant and marrying each other despite the age old blood feud between their families. Their love, doomed for the start, leads to the deaths of friends and family (spoiler alert!), not to mention the titular characters themselves.
After much debate and the success of Glowing Ember’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” we have decided to add our personal flavor to R&J and put another modern twist on a classic tale.
Prepare two contrasting monologues, one of which must be classical. Audition slots are 7 minutes each, please sign up here
Things to note about this particular production:
- Romeo and Juliet will both be played by men.
- Lord and Lady Capulet will both be played by women.
- Mercutio, Benvolio, and Tybalt will not be assigned gender until after auditions, but at least one of these three characters will be cast as a female
- No roles are pre-cast and everything is available.
PLEASE NOTE!!! Romeo and Juliet have several intimate scenes together which means that two men will be intimate with each other on stage. This means that I need people who are comfortable with this in the roles. I IMPLORE YOU to consider this prior to choosing to go for either of these parts. If you are uncomfortable being intimate with someone of your same gender than you are not the right guy for the part, but please come and audition for anyone of the myriad of other roles in the show.
