ABOUT THE SHOW: Romeo and Juliet. You think you know the story… but there is so much more than the title characters, there’s something bright, attractive, and urgently relevant about this play when fearlessly performed . And that is what this production will bring to audiences. We will aim to look specifically at unending cycles of violence, at the people it affects, and that violence is NEVER self-contained; violence breeds violence. This production will be ambitious, brave, fast, funny, and relentlessly tragic. As with all of Penelope's work, some roles will be open to cross-gender casting.
SEEKING: Actors, singers, and dancers who are willing to try new things, happy to experiment, and work outside their comfort zones. No roles have been pre-cast. Previous experience with Shakespearian text isn’t necessary as there will be a lot of text work involved with this production, along with some intensive physical work. (age 18+)
Our chorus will be an integral part of our production and we are seeking people who can sing, dance, act, work with a fight choreographer, play an instrument, or at least be willing to try your hand at all of the above. This is an ensemble heavy show so we anticipate most performers will be called most of the time.
TO AUDITION: Please prepare ONE of the following:
1.A one-minute classical monologue OR
2.16 bars of a song of your choosing OR
3.A movement/dance piece (music provided when you sign up to audition)
