Girl Friday Productions Auditions for THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH June 2 and 3
Girl Friday Productions casting diverse, versatile ensemble of actors: 6 men and 6 women ages 21-65 for a production of Thornton Wilder’s 1943 Pulitzer Prize-winning play THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH. Directed by Joel Sass. Evening and weekend rehearsals begin January 2, 2019; production runs February 7-March 3, 2019 on the proscenium stage at Park Square Theatre. $1,300 stipend paid. These general auditions are for Non-Union actors.
A surprisingly modern and optimistic tribute to the invincibility of the human spirit, The Skin of Our Teeth juxtaposes everyday life with the historical and mythological past to create a wonderfully odd world. The play follows the adventures of an eternal American family residing in prehistoric and contemporary New Jersey who prevail over a series of apocryphal catastrophes. The ice age, the great flood, world war, family strife, political conventions… the Antrobus family, their maid Sabina, and a host of other characters survive through eons of calamity with their hope intact. Continually facing the end of days, humanity perseveres. Girl Friday brings its signature large ensemble cast to this comedy of epic proportions.
We are casting 12 actors and our full ensemble is expected to include 14-15 actors. The role of Mrs. Antrobus and one ensemble player have been pre-cast. All other roles are available. More than half the cast will be required to play multiple roles, which include prophets, convention-goers, a telegraph boy, a fortune teller, a PA announcer, a dinosaur, a mammoth… and more! We seeking a fun, flexible, diverse and highly skilled team of players, of all ethnicities. We are especially encouraging actors of color to audition.
Auditions will consist of two things: 1) a prepared monologue of your choosing, no more than 2 minutes in length, and 2) a prepared side from the script. Audition sides are attached as a pdf to this audition notice. Please be familiar with all the sides, and select one to present, but no need to memorize. Auditions will be held on Saturday, June 2 from 1-4 pm and Sunday, June 3 from 2-8 pm. Callbacks will be Monday, June 11.
Audition location is the Frank Theatre rehearsal space in the Ivy Arts Building, 2637- 27th Avenue South in Minneapolis, 55406. Suite number is 208.
