nimbus will hold auditions for its winter 2019 show on July 11 & 13, 2019. Please visit our website for information or to schedule an appointment.
Thursday, July 11: 7 - 10pm
Saturday, July 13: 2 - 5pm
Callbacks - Tuesday, July 16: 7pm
Lost in the Taiga will be a new play, written by nimbus co-Artistic Director Liz Neerland and directed by Josh Cragun. The show will explore the real-life story of the Lykov family, a group of Russian Orthodox ‘Old Believers’ who fled into the Siberian wilderness in the 1930’s, driven by persecution from the Stalinist regime. In the late 1970s, a group of geologists spotted their enclave, and scientists parachuted in to meet the family. It was their first contact with the outside world in almost 50 years. Today, Agafia Karpovna Lykova, aged 75 and the last of the family, still lives in isolation from the world at her family’s homestead.
An ensemble-based work, the play will be built around a group of actors who will work together to shape the narrative and the characters in it. The work of the ensemble will be partly grounded in historical research about the Lykov family, but doesn’t necessarily intend to be a straight biographical play.
This is an ensemble production, and we will be building the show around the actors, not the other way around. That said, we do know that we will want an ensemble of 5 to 7 actors, that we want a wide range in age, that all roles will be for adults, and that we insist upon ethnic and gender diversity in all of our shows.
