Never done Shakespeare? Intimidated by the Bard? Just want to learn more about what you’re doing when you’re doing Shakespeare?
This 5 week/10 class course will help students learn to decipher the clues Shakespeare gives us in the text that help with character and circumstance as well as meaning. We will explore his use of meter, alliteration, repetition, you vs thou, verse logic, breath as well as examining the different uses of verse and prose. The first two weeks will be spent developing familiarity and confidence with these tools using sonnets and short speeches. Students will then move on to working on monologues, both in verse and prose, with a goal to leaving the workshop with at least two audition ready pieces.
The class is open to anyone age 21 and over with an interest and willingness to commit to the intensive demands of the class and the preparation necessary between classes. A face-to-face or phone interview is necessary before acceptance into the workshop.
If invited to participate, a $100 deposit will be required to hold your place. The deposit is refundable if you cancel your registration by January 27th. The balance is to be paid by February 1st and is non-refundable.
