Casting for a new play by Duke Geelan titled Root Pass, with Bryan Bevell directing. The script calls for three grade school boys age 11, and scenes are split between grade school in the 80s and present day in a fabrication shop. We will be staging the play in a metal working shop in Minneapolis with minimal props. Actors will be paid.
The play centers on welding, purpose, identity, guilt, and the consequences of loyalty. The boys are friends and are being punished for refusing to cooperate with their teacher. The act for which they are being punished is sexual in nature – this is a play with mature themes for adults. The scenes that are sexual in nature do not happen onstage and are revealed in the present day, but the play may not be suitable for all youth performers. Actors and their parents will need to determine if they are comfortable with this subject matter. The present day scenes focus on the life of one of the three boys – who he has become – and his love of TIG welding.
The roles of the three boys are extensive and key to the story. Any and all applications are welcome, including male or female and ages above 11, with the only requirement being the ability to portray an 11 year old boy.
