Anna's Night Out at the Iveys

News
A ticket to the Iveys became worth it for me around midnight at Rock Bottom Brewery, when the air finally relaxed (Oh, we’re in a bar! I know how to do this!), my eyes didn’t feel the need to dart everywhere (Shiny stimuli all around me! Dresses!), I got to rest my sequined butt in a friggin’ chair, and each delicious pint I put back was $2 each. At that point in the evening everyone was finally at ease, drunk, loose-lipped, and looking smokin’. Oh, this is why I came to this thing. Reasons I’m glad I went to the Iveys this year: Kate. Eifrig. Only thing better than Emily Gunyou Halaas winning that award? Her getting to walk up onstage in those boots. I heart Carolyn Pool—not only because she wins my award for damn foxiest bitch at the Iveys, but because I believe that she was the one and only presenter who dared to deviate from the script, if only for 2 seconds. I’m pretty sure the ceremony writers don’t use the phrase “rocks my face off.” Thank you for your personality, Carolyn (at an event that was in sore need of it). Sonja Parks and Greta Oglesby—two completely different performances and equally thrilling. Gave me chills, made me cry. Again. Grateful these ladies were able to reprise their magic (at an event that was in sore need of their magic). Adorable Amelia English representin’ Sean Healy. (At an event that was in sore need of her adorableness.) Rock Bottom. Bowties! And last but never, ever least: cleavage. Things I could have done without: Less screaming please. This should be a general rule that simply applies to 365 days of the year. The weird standing-around-in-hallways “party.” And airplane food. And strangeness! The fact that the average age of an Ivey audience member, where I was sitting, was 17. I guess I could usually do without teenagers in general. -All in all, I ended up having a terrific time that night, and it only took me 5 hours into the event to start enjoying myself. Golly gee whiz. (I suppose me having a good time ultimately depended upon $2 beers.) And hey, isn’t there a THEATER we could be helping out by renting their facilities in order to party?
