The world is awful. The idea of "human progress" is illusory. Technology changes, but we remain pretty much the same - petty, cowardly and cruel. At about the same time Judge Vaughn Walker struck down Proposition 8 in California, our own governor was suggesting that Minnesota become an English only state - as a way to "save money." Thereby cloaking casual bigotry in a button-down Oxford shirt of fiscal prudence. And the relaxed-fit khakis of banality. Hoping nobody notices his argyle socks of vaulting ambition. The point is, each step toward the good comes with a kick to the shins from evil. However, Judge Walker's ruling has a direct, positive effect on the lives of thousands of people. T-Paw's posturing hurts no one - yet. So today, at least, basic decency has an edge on fear and hatred. And that's a nice way to start the Fringe. Happy Fringing, Everybody!
