SETTING: A corner of the U of M Rarig Center TIME: Shortly before the first performance of The Show That I'm In CHARACTERS: ME and the OTHER ACTORS ME: All right, guys, it's our first show at the Minnesota Fringe Festival. Let's have a great one! OTHER ACTORS: You bet, John! Thanks for being so inspirational. ME: You're welcome. OTHER ACTORS: I love your blog, by the way. ME: That old thing? OTHER ACTORS: Hey, you know what? It's Saturday afternoon. It's hot. We're all awesome. We don't really need to try very hard. ME: What are you saying, David Mann? Think about the audience. They came to see the best show we can give them. We ought to give them a hundred percent. OTHER ACTORS: Those losers? I could give forty percent and they'd think it's the best thing they've ever seen. ME: Why are you being such a dick, David Mann? Don't you know that sometimes, people need stories more than they need food. Maybe someone in that theater needs this story. Right here. Right now. We shouldn't give a hundred percent. We should give a million percent. EPILOGUE: And that's what we did. We went out there and gave a million percent.
