DIRECTOR'S NOTE
This high-spirited comedy is filled with disguise, deceit, insults, romance, friendship, comic feasting, lost purses, lost letters, lost minds, and meatballs. It follows the high-wire story of our hero, Truffaldino, who has the good fortune to be doubly-employed as long as he can keep his two masters unaware of one another. His exploits plunge him headlong into the machinations of four young lovers, each in hot pursuit of their soulmate. He has to rely on the end of his wits to uncover secrets, hide secrets, reveal secrets, juggle secrets (and plates) and get a decent lunch before the whole mess completely unravels.
This show will be performed using traditional commedia dell'arte conventions filtered through a contemporary lens. The style is robustly physical and the dialogue requires sharp comic timing. We are looking for actors who are physically and verbally adroit, and ready to sweat in pursuit of a laugh. Experience in clowning, movement, mask work, and/or commedia dell'arte is a plus.
