This sidesplitting, uplifting peek into the lives of the rural Norwegian Lutherans who audiences first fell in love with in 2005 is the sixth chapter of the story begun in the original Church Basement Ladies. In Rise Up O Men, series familiars Mrs. Mavis Gilmerson, Mrs. Vivian Snustad, and Mrs. Karin Engleson are busy with preparations for the church’s 1964 Centennial Celebration, and the menfolk of the parish have their own problems to solve. Karin’s husband Elroy, farmer Carl and Great War vet Arlo are joined in brotherhood by series staple Pastor E.L. Gunderson. Their camaraderie unites them as they deal with furnace salesmen, looming retirement, rival Protestant denominations, the Pastor’s bad jokes, and Arlene’s even-worse cooking.

A Lutheran take on the classical "hero" journey, RISE UP, O MEN is the story of men (and women) who become larger than themselves; it's the story of a group of farmers and John Deere dealers, and church basement ladies, who rise to the requirement of heroism in order to help their community and its future. RISE UP, O MEN is a new musical featuring the men of the church and your favorite church basement Ladies who serve them. The year is 1964, in the basement kitchen of the Lutheran Church in rural Minnesota. As these hard-working farmers discuss their scrap lumber piles and their tractors and preparations for the Centennial Celebration, they unintentionally disrupt the order of the kitchen...but that's what happens when you let the roosters in the hen house.

“You there! Dickens! Dickens, the Christmas Man! With your Scrooge and your Spirits and sudden conversions! Why do you make up such stories?

The taunter is a scraggly, smelly twelve year old boy, one Algernon Charles Swinburne, perched naked atop a graveyard wall. The target of his tirade: Charles Dickens, author, journalist, would-be thespian, and summer neighbor of Swinburne’s parents on the Isle of Wight. This unpleasant encounter between two giants of world literature—one in middle age, the other yet to write the verses that would make his name—spur Dickens to write a tale that takes up Swinburne’s challenge.

To Begin With is the fascinating story of his struggle to create a personal adaptation of the Biblical Gospels to be performed for his children on Christmas Eve 1849. Amid distractions from his family, Swinburne and his own insecurities, he wrestles with how to present the story of Jesus Christ to a brood that ranges from 2 to 10 years of age.

Though he never intended this work to published, the Dickens family agreed to publish it as The Life of Our Lord in 1934 (sixty four years after his death). It is on this book that the one-man play is imagined. It’s a witty, insightful and thoroughly enjoyable look into the mind of a great writer.

DaNCEBUMS DaNCE is a four week residency jam-packed with dance, music, and performance. Joined by keyboardist/vocalist Eric Mayson and percussionist Toby Ramaswamy, DaNCEBUMS is a band that makes dances. Each week focuses on a facet of DaNCEBUMness, with an all-star line up to match.

The theme of the first week is DaNCINESS - A celebration of the visceral delight of movement. Wednesday, April 5th, with Hiponymous, and P•PL.

Inspired by the passion and vitality in the way that audiences respond to their favorite band, DaNCEBUMS set out to cultivate the same enthusiasm for their dances. The journey began at the 2014 MN Fringe with DaNCEBUMS Presents dancebums by dance bums with special guests and Dancebums. In the show, DaNCEBUMS played the role of a band performing the final stop of their global tour. Fueled by a dancer’s envy of the the love and support for the Minnesota music scene, they have worked tirelessly to transform fiction into fact. By creating choreography that adapts to any space, DaNCEBUMS engage hearts and minds in dark clubs, clandestine parties, and the most sought after auditoriums.

DaNCEBUMS is a group of five making dance collaboratively and non-hierarchically in Minneapolis. Dubbed “the best dance party in town,” their work straddles the arty and the party as they knowingly move between precise technique and casual pop sensibility. In a search for radical joy, they embrace the awkward, conjure nostalgia, and contemplate bright futures. Their crowd-pleasing performance is imbued with humor, groove, exertion, and extreme bliss.

They have presented work at the Walker Art Center, Red Eye Theater, The Southern Theater, and the Bryant Lake Bowl. Their webseries, moves4u2do, allows fans to take the choreography off the stage and into their lives with simple instructional videos. Currently, DaNCEBUMS is realizing their dream of becoming a dance band - taking their work out of the theater and into bars, music venues, and parties.

DaNCEBUMS DaNCE. Created and performed by DaNCEBUMS, Eric Mayson, and Toby Ramaswamy. April 5th, 11th, 18th, and 27th at Icehouse, 2528 Nicollet Av S. Tickets $8 advance/$10 doors, icehouse.com/events. Doors 9:30 PM/show 10 PM. 21+.
