This joyful and touching comedy is by the writers of “The Dixie Swim Club.” Four very different Southern women, all needing to escape the sameness of their day-to-day routines, are drawn together by fate - and an impromptu happy hour - and decide it’s high time to reclaim the enthusiasm for life that they have lost. Over the course of six months, filled with laughter, misadventures, and the occasional liquid refreshment, these middle-aged women successfully bond and find the confidence to jumpstart their new lives. Together, they discover lasting friendships and a renewed determination to live in the moment - and most importantly, realize it’s never too late to make new old friends.

Northfield Arts Guild Theater presents Arthur Miller’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning drama, Death of Salesman. This profound classic performs during the weekends of September 22 through October 1, 2017. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater, 411 Third Street West, Northfield.

Tickets for Death of Salesman are available online at NorthfieldArtsGuild.org, by calling 507-645-8877, or at the Northfield Arts Guild’s Center for the Arts, 304 Division Street South, Northfield.

Director Marc Robinson is a professor of Russian at St. Olaf College who specializes in contemporary Russian theater.  He has directed a number of shows at the Guild over the years including Dracula, The Importance of Being Earnest, his own play The Singer Sisters, and Cabaret.  Marc’s interest in Russian physical theater is inspiring him to try a new approach with the American classic, Death of a Salesman. “I see the play as dealing with something very pertinent to today's US,: says Robinson, " - the place of those who have found their livelihoods no longer relevant to contemporary society.  For Willy Loman, it was being a traveling salesman.  For contemporary Americans it might be factory workers, farm workers or any number of people who find that the things they planned to work at for their whole life have disappeared.  I see the real tragedy not only as the death of Willy Loman, but the fact that his entire family is doomed to extinction along with him.”

The Death of Salesman cast features Frank Blomgren and Susan Dunhaupt as Willy and Linda Loman, Ben Pelegano as Happy, Jonathan Larson as Biff, James Ayers as Bernard, Felicia Crosby as The Woman, Carter Martin as Charley, Greg Muth as Uncle Ben, Chris Heineman as Howard Wagner, Taylor Heitman as Jenny, Rob Schanilec as Stanley, Hannah Phipps as Miss Forsythe and Alison Haider as Letta.

An opening night reception for Death of Salesman will be held prior to the Friday, September 22 performance.  Following the Sunday, September 24th performance will be a post-show discussion.

The 2017-18 “Striking Conversations” Theater Season is sponsored by Neuger Communications Group and Engage Print. Death of Salesman is supported additionally by Labor Arbitration  Institute.

The Northfield Arts Guild Office, Shop and Gallery, 304 Division Street South, are open on Tuesdays through Fridays from 12:00pm to 6:00pm and on Saturdays from 11:00am to 3:00 pm.

This activity is made possible by the voter of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Einstein: A Stage Portrait, written by Willard Simms and starring Thomas Schuch is a play which has been described as The official, commemorative Einstein!” (Dan Sullivan, LA Times). The playwright had this to say of Thomas Schuch’s performance: “In the last 20 years of seeing many productions of my one-person play about Albert Einstein, Mr. Schuch's portrayal best captures the impish humor and the deep humanity of the great genius who called himself "the man whose name everyone knows and whose theory no one understands!"

There's a difference sometimes between what someone says and what someone truly thinks. In this show, improvisers will be interpreting what's going on inside someone's brain through abstract "interlude" segments where the players dive into the psyche and the world building of the scene. When the “interlude” ends, you know more about what the characters are really thinking and what their situation is. Interludes explores the tiny minutiae of the moments between breaths with sound, movement, and interlogues.

Opening Act: Bollyprov!
