Catch it again or for the first time! Spookley the Square Pumpkin sprouts back into our Hopkins Jaycees Studio for an encore performance this autumn! When Spookley arrives in the pumpkin patch he is teased by all the other pumpkins because of his odd shape. Even after his new friends—the boisterous spiders Edgar, Allen and Poe—try to convince him to run for the Pick of the Patch contest, Spookley still isn’t sure he has what it takes. However, a threatening storm may just give Spookley the inspiration to discover his own worth. This imaginative puppetry extravaganza filled with memorable music will surely encourage you to “dare to be square!”

This spritely comedy of high society men and women adds romance, blackmail and political intrigue to the mix of manners and morals. Sir Robert Chiltern is a respected member of Parliament, while his best friend Lord Arthur Goring prefers gossip and an idle life.  When a woman from their past arrives, their lives - and Sir Robert's "ideal" marriage -  are thrown into jeopardy.

Flavio Betrayed - A Commedia
Oct 13 - 29, 2017

By Scott Ford
This high-spirited comedy, written by Resident Director Scott Ford, is filled with disguise, deceit, insults, romance, friendship, stinky cheese, and contemporary pop culture references. It follows the delightfully convoluted story of our hero Flavio, whose best friend is trying to steal the hand of his beloved Isabella, while her father attempts to marry her off to another suitor who is considerably past his prime. It is up to Isabella’s faithful and clever servant Pedrolino to dodge danger and keep them together.

Scott Ford’s ridiculously silly play had its world premiere performance at Anoka Ramsey Community College and Lyric Arts couldn’t be more proud to give this show its professional debut.

The Hollow

A Murder Mystery

by Agatha Christie

Directed by George M. Roesler

An unhappy game of romantic follow-the-leader explodes into murder one weekend at The Hollow, home of Sir Henry and Lucy Angkatell, arguably Christie’s finest comic grande dame. Dr. Cristow, the Harley Street lothario, is at the center of the trouble when, assembled in one place, we find his dull but devoted wife Gerda, his mistress and prominent sculptor Henrietta and his former lover and Hollywood film star Veronica Craye. Also visiting are Edward and Midge whose romantic assertions are likewise thrown into the mix. As the list of romantic associations grow so does the list of potential suspects when Cristow is shot dead. Nearly everyone has a motive but only one of them did the deed. A smoking gun-but who pulled the trigger?

Considered one of the most poetic – and shocking – plays of Tennessee Williams. A prominent New Orleans family is mourning the sudden death of its only son, Sebastian. The grief of his mother Violet is matched only by her determination to silence her niece Catharine – whose memories of Sebastian’s final days are so traumatic that she’s been committed to an asylum. A new and shocking version of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale of depravity, lust, love, and horror. On the fog-bound streets of Victorian-era London, Henry Jekyll's experiments with  exotic "powders and tinctures" have brought forth his other self --- Edward Hyde, a sensualist and villian free to commit the sins Jekyll is too civilized to comphrehend. When Hyde meets a woman who stirs his interest, Jekyll fears for her life and decides to end his experiments. But Hyde has other ideas, and so the two sides battle each other in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse to determine who shall be the master and who the slave. With multiple Hydes portrayed by members of the cast.--Dramatist Play Service, INC.

"A smart, tense and suspenseful new take on Stevenson's look at the evil that lurks in the hearts of men...Hatcher has fashioned a play that seems truer to Stevenson but hipper, sexier and more intense...a suspense almost affecting as it is intense." --The San Francisco Chronicle

Jeremiah and Vanessa Gamble, the creative team behind Kingdom Undone, and ‘Til Death: A Marriage Musical, present their newest labor of love, Sam’s Son, a Prohibition-era Americana musical loosely inspired by the biblical story of Samson.  While this musical is not that story specifically, it is inspired by themes in the original story– purity, hypocrisy, judgment, and liberation. Jeremiah says, “I saw that the Prohibition era echoed those same themes and has striking parallels with our country today.”

St. Paul’s tainted bootlegging history is not lost on the authors.  Their unique performance venue is Art House North, a 100+ year old church in the West 7th neighborhood of St. Paul, and home to their theater company, Bucket Brigade. The show will take place on both levels of the church, the upper level holding much of the action, while the downstairs lobby is transformed into a speakeasy serving German pretzels from Brake Bread and draft root beer from Vine Park Brewery.

SYNOPSIS:  Gifted with unnatural strength, Sam Jr. wants to accomplish great things, but his reverend father seeks to shelter him from the wide world.  When a Prohibition agent comes digging for secrets in the town of Goode, Sam and his father get caught up in a tangled mission of truth, where lies get revealed at great cost.

With more than 2,000 cans and over 650 bottles of beer consumed onstage, Shit-Faced Shakespeare has racked up impressive numbers. Ripping a page out of the ingeniously sloppy series Drunk History, the theater troupe behind Shit-Faced Shakespeare inserts an entirely inebriated cast member into an entirely serious production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Laugh-out-loud funny and completely interactive, the series has been selling out shows in the UK since 2010 and has finally made its way stateside. With a different drunk actor each night, no two performances are ever the same. And lest you think it disrespectful, it's all based on the good 'ole days of the raucous, interactive and vibrant Elizabethan theater scene. There's a difference sometimes between what someone says and what someone truly thinks. In this show, improvisers will be interpreting what's going on inside someone's brain through abstract "interlude" segments where the players dive into the psyche and the world building of the scene. When the “interlude” ends, you know more about what the characters are really thinking and what their situation is. Interludes explores the tiny minutiae of the moments between breaths with sound, movement, and interlogues.

Opening Act: Bollyprov!
