Theatre Coup d’Etat presents Moby Dick, a new original adaptation from the novel by Herman Melville, performing November 3 - 20, 7:30pm at Fallout Arts Initiative Co-op Studio 3 in Minneapolis.

MINNEAPOLIS – Herman Melville’s Moby Dick has been called the “greatest American novel”. This adaptation illustrates what truly makes America great - diversity, inclusion, and hard work. Coup d’Etat’s Moby Dick is the story of a diverse crew of sailors working during the height of the whaling industry, as told through the eyes of a callow narrator, Ishmael. The hunt this time, however, is for the leviathan that took the leg and splintered the mind of Captain Ahab, a man haunted by demons of his own making. Under the wisdom and guidance of the great harpooner Queequeg, Ishmael gives us a lens into a world of cultural unity, moral and ethical conflict, and what it means to depend on the person next to you in a dangerous world where each day could be your last.

Two-time Ivey Award-winning Theatre Coup d’Etat is proud to present this world premier in the Twin Cities. Combining actor-driven movement, live sound-scaping and music, and the intimate seating of Fallout Arts Initiative Co-op Studio 3, Theatre Coup d’Etat’s production of Moby Dick is another can’t-miss experience.

Admission is sliding scale, $18-$40. Tickets available at www.theatrecoupdetat.com or call 1-800-838-3006. Fallout Arts Initiative Co-op Studio 3 is located at 2601 2nd Ave. S., MPLS 55408.

For Florence, it will be her lucrative retirement fund once she gets “all these treasures up on that there eBay thing-a-ma-jigger”. Florence’s housemate and younger daughter, Mary Elizabeth, just wants to make everyone happy and maintain her personal status quo of work, Wheel of Fortune, Charleston Chews, Mallow Cups and Saturday dates with Abe. When Ellen realizes that her precarious financial situation no longer allows her to carry the cost of her mother’s house, she arrives ready to take charge and move Florence out to greener pastures. Florence doesn’t take too kindly to the intrusion of her bossy daughter, has no intention of abandoning her treasure trove of retirement goods, and is ready to go to battle to prove it.

Mirroring the grotesque creature of Mary Shelley’s iconic novel, scenes of gothic horror are cobbled together with Green T’s signature physical style.  An eerie parade of misshapen beings, a visual nod to the 1931 Karloff film, oversized puppets, and at the center, the heartbreaking, female-centered story of an ambitious medical student who brings a creature to life then shuns it.  Locked out of society, deprived of human contact, understanding and compassion, the creature tragically lashes out.
