Presented as a living room tour - in a different living room every night, Seascape with Sharks and Dancer is an intimate dark romantic comedy.

While walking along the beach one night, lonely writer Ben spots a barely-clad young woman struggling in the ocean. Jumping into action, he pulls her to shore and brings her back to his dingy beach house to recover. Heroic -- but Tracy's not the least bit thankful. In fact, she declares that she wasn't drowning, but dancing, and how dare he interrupt her moment. She's eccentric, rude, kooky, smug and difficult. Despite all this, Ben is entranced.

Two damaged people come together and form an unlikely relationship in this dark, romantic comedy: he's the image of unconditional love, she's the poster child for survivors of toxic relationships. Together they are playing emotional war games and there's no guarantee of a peace treaty any time soon.

APRIL 12 – MAY 12, 2019

The design process comes alive on our main stage this spring! A young girl has a wonderful idea. “She is going to make the most MAGNIFICENT thing! She knows just how it will look. She knows just how it will work. All she has to do is make it, and she makes things all the time. Easy-peasy!” But as the girl tries and fails, repeatedly, she finds invention is anything but easy. Working through her anger and frustration she “smoothes and wrenches and fiddles,” and she “twists and tweaks and fastens,” until she manages to get it just right. Our world premiere musical adaptation shows that it’s okay to make mistakes as we create, tinker and achieve.

Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of biblical Jesus in the final days leading up to his
crucifixion, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew,
Mark, Luke, and John, Superstar follows, the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told
entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus,
Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers and the Roman Empire. Well-known
songs include “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” and “Gethsemane.” A true
global phenomenon, Superstar continues to touch new generations of audiences and

A 100% accurate story about the worst leader ever.

(No, not that one. Commodus.)

Four Humors is finally brave enough to portray a theatre troupe that is brave enough to tell the story of a corrupt tyrant who has been dead for 1800 years.

We refuse to apologize for that. (Also, sorry.)

The year is 193 AD and the "renowned" Crocus and Ambrosia Players are touring the furthest reaches of the glorious Roman Empire to spread cautionary tales to the recently pacified (and eternally grateful!) savages of... whatever this dumb village is called.

Will the backward locals heed the warnings of absolute power run amok?
Will the awesome power of theatre enlighten their stupid, stupid minds?
Will the players make it out alive?

Hear the epic tale of a vain, power-hungry madman sowing chaos to further his own interests while sinking ever deeper into delusion and paranoia as those who seek to end his corrupt reign grow ever closer.

(No, not that one. Commodus.)

Few leaders in history have matched the personal, political, and moral reprehensibility of Commodus, though, as Mark Twain once said, "History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes."

Join us for the laugh-a-minute tragedy of an empire in embarrassing decline.

(No, not that one. Rome.)

If you could send a message out to the universe just to tell them our world was here, what would you say? What would you share?

Join Sandbox for an intimate aural and visual event celebrating NASA’s Voyager Golden Records. The Golden Record Project is part art installation, part performance, part interactive museum. It’s a search for connection, a hopeful call to other worlds, and a declaration that we are here.

In 1977, a NASA project led by astronomer Carl Sagan, and writer/producer Ann Druyan, launched time capsule discs they called Golden Records into deep space aboard two NASA Voyager satellites. President Jimmy Carter called them, “a present from a small, distant world, a token of our sounds, our science, our images, our music, our thoughts and our feelings. We are attempting to survive our time so we may live into yours.”

In Sandbox’s Golden Record Project, a multi-disciplinary collection of twin cities artists, along with our audiences, will explore the cultural, historical and current significance of the original Golden Records, and through this exploration, create a new record of our own.

How has our world changed? What would you send out today?

"Fol De Rol Rol, said the big old Troll..."

Welcome to Beldenville, Maine, where townsfolk scoff at the legend of a troll who lives in the old train tunnel—until one dark night a child vanishes and is never seen again. This new Open Eye premiere is an imaginative, visually rich theatre piece that uses live actors, puppetry, and a wild array of animated objects to explore the uncanny events occurring in a small town, and how the inhabitants cope with a troublesome stranger in their midst. Mythic, mysterious, and full of frights and laughs, THE BELDENVILLE TROLL is a modern fable about a childhood’s end, and adulthood’s beginning.

The Open Eye gallery will feature an exhibit of vintage photography and artifacts from Beldenville, including some rare troll bones on loan from the village historical society that audiences can explore before and after the show.

When Roxane confesses that she’s fallen for a handsome young cadet named Christian, Cyrano takes him under his wing, adds brains to his beauty and, through Christian, expresses his own feelings to Roxane without her suspecting a thing. Wit, wordplay and rousing passion make this a heroic comedy for the ages.

The Northfield Arts Guild and director Lolly Foy present The Secret Garden, a Tony-Award winning musical based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic novel.  The Secret Garden plays at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater weekends April 12 - 28 with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees at 2 pm.  The Northfield Arts Guild Theater is located at 411 Third Street W, Northfield.

Based on Burnett’s beloved novel, “The Secret Garden” follows Mary Lennox, a young orphan girl who lives with her reclusive uncle in a lonely Yorkshire mansion shrouded in mysteries and secrets. Left to her own devices in the huge house, Mary discovers a hidden, overgrown garden that once belonged to her uncle’s late wife Lily. With the help of new friends, Mary learns that with tender care and love, even the saddest, most forsaken things can bloom and thrive again with full life and beauty.

The Secret Garden’s script and lyrics are by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Marsha Norman with music by Lucy Simon.

“This show, this cast, embodies what I love best about theatre, “said director Foy, “that special alchemy that happens when performers and material come together to make magic that is greater than the sum of its parts!”

Mild Manner performs local music.
The Local Music Scene improvises scenes inspired by the lyrics.

Eclectic but focused, rowdy but controlled; Mild Manner’s definition is as contradictory as their title. A four piece of twenty somethings that sprouted from the same five-mile patch of Twin Cities-adjacent suburb, Mild Manner offers a homeostatic performance that’s constantly in flux between a hip-shaking chaos and quiet energy. Thick, distorted influences of The Strokes and Cage the Elephant are chased by those of Billy Joel shuffle and Bernard Purdie groove; moxie of Vampire Weekend in one-two punch with the modernity of Polica. Since the late months of 2015, Mild Manner has been performing while fronted by Singer/Saxophonist Dante Leyva ahead of Guitarist Steven Maurer and Drummer Ryan LeMay, and in March 2017 they released their self-titled debut EP, produced internally by Bassist/Synthist Riley Jacobson of Glaucus productions. Since that winter, the band has accrued headlining performances at Minneapolis’s 7th Street Entry, as well as all around the greater Twin Cities area, Madison, and received an extended feature in NPR’s retrospective video for the 2017 Tiny Desk competition; they are currently aiming to develop their performance opportunities.

The Local Music Scene is a rotating cast of some of the best improvisors in the Twin Cities.
