Friends with Guns by Stephanie Alison Walker

*Part of a rolling World Premiere*

Directed by Shalee Coleman

Two sleep-deprived moms meet at a West LA park, and it’s instant sisterhood. Their husbands hit it off, too, and it seems as though they’ve found their urban family — until guns enter the conversation. Friends With Guns is a dark comedy that pulls the curtain back on liberals with guns. It explores what happens when one person in a marriage suddenly does a 180 on the gun issue and it asks what we can compartmentalize and what we can’t.

Uprising Theatre Company believes in warning audiences about potentially triggering material. Friends with Guns contains the following content warnings:
-Simulated gun fire sounds
-Discussions and depictions of Intruder and Domestic Violence.
If you have questions about the specific context of these content warnings, please contact us: [email protected] and we will get back to you.

Show runs: 20 September-5 October

When the Jazz Age crossed over to France in the 1920s, Cole Porter was in the center of it all. Porter's original production of La Revue des Ambassadeurs was mounted at Paris's hottest nightclub, Cafe des Ambassadeurs, in 1928 and was a swinging sizzling smash hit! Then, tragedy struck when the score of the show was lost to a box in storage and fell into oblivion until a stroke of musical theatre luck.

Over 90 years later, and after two years of archival work, utilizing orchestra arrangements by Fred Waring and Larry Blank, Legacy Musical Theatre was able to piece together the full production arrangement to create a 2019 World Premiere of the rediscovered Cole Porter sensation The Ambassador Revue.

This production features a massive artistic collaboration of over forty performers, dancers, directors and artists ‒– bringing together Legacy Musical Theatre, vaudeville revival house Minnsky Theatre, an all-star cast of Minnesota singers featuring nationally-renowned performer Christopher Hopkins, professional showgirl troupe The ExperTeasers and The Minnesota Dance Collaborative.

International celebrity artist Anthony Raymond Whelihan has created a portrait of Cole Porter specifically for this 2019 world premiere of The Ambassador Revue. This piece will be featured at a silent auction during the show’s run and proceeds will benefit the charitable institutions Interact Center for the Visual and Performing Arts and Minnesota Dance Collaborative.

With staging and choreography by Jac Fatale, Shelli Manzoline, Holly Bryant, and special guest choreographer Bette Darrell (91 years young).
Musical Direction by Samantha Laumann assisted by Danny Glass.

Tickets for this world premiere Cole Porter experience are online at Minnsky.com and range from $20 to $60. Minnsky Theatre has a full wine and beer bar with concessions, and is 18+.

When words fail, a home-cooked meal transcends differences and brings us together in this heartwarming drama by Julia Cho and directed by Flordelino Lagundino.
