Seeking New plays & Twin Cities Actors

"Bad Mouth THeatre Company is a new theatre company based in St. Paul, MN devoted to new writing; presented live and digitially.  We're excited to announce our inaugural "Live & Unlocked" Reading Series to take place March-July 2022 at Waldmann Brewery and online.  As part of this series, we will launch a new theatre podcast (Mouthing Off) to include both readings and interviews with playwrights and other artists.  We seek both actors interested in participating as well as playwrights interested in sharing work for future readings.  We are interested in theatrical work that bends our idea of what live performance can do and that which addresses the current moment.

Actors and playwrights, please submit at   DEADLINE: Ongoing

Returning to the first live performance since the Before Times, Theatre Coup d’Etat presents the world premier of Pyrates - a new work written and directed by James Napoleon Stone - performing Thursday - Monday, June 16 - 27, 2022, all 7:30pm performances at historic Fire Station 24 in South Minneapolis. This will also be Theatre Coup d’Etat’s final show in the Twin Cities, and we intend to go out with a bang! (And cannons, sword fighting, perhaps even with the swash of a buckle or two.)

Pyrates is a dark comedy that will focus on a non-binary protagonist, Tanith, press-ganged aboard a military vessel. The crew have planned a mutiny to overthrow the vicious captain, and Tanith suddenly finds themselves swept up into the world of piracy. Along the way we witness the experiences of femme and masculine-presenting sailors, sailors of color, pirate legends, and individuals with different cultural backgrounds uniting together against the disproportionately wealthy rulers of society. Seeing their differences as strength, the crew embarks on “the big score” - the theft of a great treasure - the worth of which will allow them to leave piracy behind. This journey and its characters are based on real-life events and individuals.

Tanith - Taelyn Gore

Morgan - Brian Joyce

Combining actor-driven movement, a blend of live and engineered soundscape, and alley configuration staging, Pyrates will take audiences from the decks of ships to the bowels of dingy taverns and the roaring seas in between. Two-time Ivey Award-winning Theatre Coup d’Etat is proud to present the world premier of this dark comedy!

Take a road trip with Libby as she impulsively hitchhikes from New York to Hollywood! With dreams of stardom, Libby expects her estranged screenwriter father to atone for his past mistakes and launch her acting career. But when she arrives at her Dad’s run-down bungalow, it soon becomes obvious that he is in no position to advance anyone’s career—including his own. With huge heart and wicked one-liners, Neil Simon (of The Odd Couple fame) crafts a poignant comedy about the lengths we’ll go to for a second chance.
