REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES | OCTOBER 14–30, 2022

In collaboration with Teatro del Pueblo

by Josefina López
Co-Directed by
Lelis Brito & Adlyn Carreras

Set in a tiny sewing factory in East L.A., this is the outrageously funny story of five Latin-American women who are racing to meet nearly impossible deadlines in order to keep their factory from going under. And while they work, they talk...about their husbands and lovers, their children and their dreams for the future.

Ana, however, has dreams bigger than sewing the rest of her life away. Her world-weary coworkers can't help but laugh at her ambitions and what they consider her "idealistic feminist philosophies." As the summer unfolds, the threat of deportation and cultural pressures mount. The women navigate issues of self-image while uniting to achieve their seemingly impossible goals; learning to love and appreciate not only one another, but themselves in the process. A microcosm of the Latina immigrant experience, REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES celebrates women's bodies, the power of women, and the incredible bond that happens when women work together.

Tickets range from $34–42. Please visit the Ticket Information section of our website for more details.

A beautifully authentic look at Latina culture and the power of sisterhood. Recommended for 14 and up. For a preview of what to expect from the show, please visit our What Audiences Should Know guide. Please note, as a courtesy to our patrons, children under the age of 5 will not be admitted.

To ensure a Sign Language-interpreted performance on Sunday, October 23 please request accommodations by October 17, 2022. For more information on our ASL seating policies and other accessibility services, please visit our Accessibility page.

When a young, liberal, Harvard Law School graduate embarks on a nerve-wracking clerkship with fearsome conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, she discovers him to be both an infuriating sparring partner and an unexpected mentor. John Strand’s critically acclaimed drama asks the question: What does it cost us to suppress our fear and distrust, and sit down with the monsters?

Directed by Stephen O'Toole. Featuring James Ramlet as Supreme Court Justice Antonin SCALIA alongside Kalala Kiwanuka-Woernle as Scalia’s Law Clerk, CAT, and Jonah Smith as Recent Law School Graduate, BRAD. Stage managed by Lauren Volkart with design work by Nate Farley, MaryBeth Schmid, Olivia Lundsten, and Jeremy Stanbary. Weapons instruction by Mason Tyer.

Critical acclaim for The Originalist:

“[THE ORIGINALIST] depicts robust, aggressive, passionate disagreement in a context of respect and developing friendship. It accepts power and winning as measures of success, but decency and kindness as even more important measures of a person. In that regard, it feels like a play we need right now.” —Chicago Sun-Times

When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges pins a father longing for the son he lost against a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top Forty score, augmented with dynamic new songs, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while guiding them with a warm heart and open mind.

Footloose first burst onto the silver screen in 1984 and proved to be one of the year’s most successful motion pictures. The soundtrack recording reached #1 on the Billboard charts, and went on to sell over 17 million copies worldwide, generating such Top Forty hits as its title song and “Let’s Hear It For The Boy” (both of which received Academy Award nominations), plus “Almost Paradise,” “Holding Out For A Hero,” and “I’m Free (Heaven Helps the Man).” With a screenplay and lyrics by Oscar winner Dean Pitchford, the story focused on young people, much like his previous, and wildly successful movie musical Fame.
