Job Summary:

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of all productions and events at Children’s Performing Arts (CPA). This role ensures that productions meet the creative vision of directors, are completed on time and within budget, and are executed safely. The Production Manager also handles technical aspects for all external CPA events and manages relationships with contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Season Planning & Event Coordination:
    • Collaborate with the team to plan the production season and organize key events (e.g., The Masque, Season Announcement Party).
    • Serve as the main point of contact for space reservations with partner venues (e.g., LPT, LILA, FLHS).
  • Contractor Management:
    • Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of contractors (directors, music, choreographers, technical crew) for each production.
    • Ensure all paperwork, contracts, and background checks are completed before contractors start work.
    • Maintain strong relationships with contractors, providing ongoing support throughout each production.
  • Production Oversight:
    • Create and manage production timelines, calendars, and rehearsal schedules.
    • Host production meetings and ensure proper communication between all departments (set, costume, lighting, sound, etc.).
    • Oversee all safety protocols and work with the Executive Director to adhere to production budgets.
    • Manage communication with cast members and families, sending updates, rehearsal reports, and tech week information.
    • Attend key production rehearsals, fittings, and performances, ensuring the production meets CPA standards.
  • Technical Operations:
    • Oversee all technical aspects of CPA events, including lighting, sound, and digital components.
    • Manage external rental opportunities, working with partners on load-ins and payments.
    • Ensure proper maintenance of CPA’s costume, props, and set inventories.
    • Monitor audio recording and mixing for productions and ensure materials are uploaded to Google Drive as needed.
  • Provide occasional stage management or directing duties as needed:
  • The Production Manager may be required to stage manage or take on other production team roles for at least one production per year as part of their full-time workload. Additional production or teaching assignments may be required as work capacity permits.
  • General Staff Responsibilities:
    • Attend weekly staff meetings.
    • Assist with ticketing, box office, and front-of-house operations as needed.
    • Attend CPA’s annual events (e.g., donor party, gala, opening night toasts).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or strong experience in theater, production, theater arts, or a relevant field. 
  • Previous experience managing productions.
  • Ability to manage production contracts, schedules, and budgets effectively.
  • Proficiency in project management software, spreadsheets, scheduling tools, and communication platforms.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

This is a full-time, salaried position requiring flexibility to accommodate production schedules, including occasional evenings and weekends. Candidates must be prepared to work within the dynamic schedule of a theatre for young audiences.
