Auditions for INTO THE WOODS by Stephen Sondheim

 

Auditions for Shoot the Glass Theater's production of Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim will take place Saturday, September 9th from 1pm to 5pm and Sunday, September 10th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at First Universalist Church in Minneapolis, MN.

Into the Woods will be directed by Ryan Nielson, with Music Direction by Randy BuikemaPerformances will take place at The Crane Theater in Minneapolis, MN.  There will be a total of 16 performances running June 7th - July 1st, 2018.

We have the following roles available for our production of INTO THE WOODS:

THE BAKER'S WIFE
Determined and bright woman who wishes to be a mother. (late twenties to mid thirties)
CINDERELLA
A young, earnest maiden who wishes to go to the King's Festival. (early to late twenties)
LITTLE RED
A young girl who is fearless and impetuous. (late teens to late twenties)
JACK
A young man who wishes for freedom and adventure. (late teens to late twenties)
JACK'S MOTHER
Overprotective but good-natured, she wants to preserve Jack's youth and innocence. (forties to fifties)
RAPUNZEL'S PRINCE
Younger brother of Cinderella's Prince, he lives for the next maiden to chase through the woods. (late teens to early twenties)
RAPUNZEL
A young maiden who has been locked in a tower all her life; wishes to see the world outside. (late teens to early twenties)
THE NARRATOR
A pleasant story-teller who helps to orchestrate the play to the audience. (thirties and up)
THE MYSTERIOUS MAN
A mischievous vagrant; a creature of the woods. (fifties/sixties/seventies)
FLORINDA and LUCINDA
Cinderella's stepsisters: beautiful of face but vile and black of heart. (early to late twenties)
CINDERELLA'S STEP-MOTHER
Demanding, often mean-spirited stepmother of Cinderella. (late forties/fifties)
THE STEWARD
The right-hand man of Cinderella's Prince. (late twenties/thirties/forties)
CINDERELLA'S MOTHER
Deceased, but her soul and magic aid her daughter from a tree which marks her grave. (age undetermined - may double as additional roles)
GRANNY
Aggressive hermit and self-reliant grandmother of Little Red. (sixties/seventies - may double as additional roles) 
THE GIANT
Voiceover. The wife of the Giant slain by Jack, she seeks restitution for her loss. (age undetermined - may double as additional roles)
SNOW WHITE and SLEEPING BEAUTY
Two young maidens who will may play additional roles and provide assistance throughout the production. (late teens to late twenties)

Have your calendar handy and be prepared to enter rehearsal conflicts. You will be asked to upload a headshot (a JPEG file) and a theatrical résumé (a PDF file) if you have one. **UPDATE: ALL 128 AUDITION SLOTS CURRENTLY FULL.  PLEASE SIGN UP FOR THE WAITING LIST AND HOPEFULLY WE WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE SOME TIME AVAILABLE BETWEEN NOW AND SEPTEMBER 9TH!

 

We will ask that you perform a short piece of music (1-2 minutes in length, but please not something from Into the Woods).  This audition will be singing only.  Accompanist will be provided.

Callbacks will be held on Saturday, September 16th, from 10-2pm at (location TBD).  Callbacks will consist of readings from the script as well as selected music from Into the Woods (both provided in advance).  

There will be an approximately five week rehearsal process with rehearsals taking place primarily in the evenings and on some weekends beginning April 30th, 2018.  There will be a stipend of $300 given to each actor cast.
