Eden Prairie Players is holding Auditions for our Summer Musical!
Music by Richard Rodgers
Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
Book by Tom Briggs and Louis Mattioli
Directed by Stephen Houtz
Musical Director Melissa Warhol
Choreographer Brianna Belland
Rodgers & Hammerstein's only musical written directly for the screen is now a stage musical that's had critics raving from coast to coast. Set against the colorful backdrop of an American heartland tradition, State Fair travels with the Frake family as they leave behind the routine of the farm for three days of adventure at the annual Iowa State Fair. Mom and Pop have their hearts set on blue ribbons while their daughter and son find romance and heartbreak on the midway.
Set to the magical strains of an Academy Award-winning score and augmented by other titles from the Rodgers and Hammerstein songbook, State Fair is the kind of warm-hearted family entertainment only Rodgers & Hammerstein could deliver!
State Fair is a free, donation-supported, outdoor production that is presented at the Staring Lake Amphitheater in Eden Prairie.
Auditions will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, March 26 and 27, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. We will open at 6:15 PM to begin checking people in. We ask you to make an appointment for one of the available half-hour time slots and show up at least 10 minutes early to sign in.
Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on Thursday, March 28.
Auditions are held at Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road, Eden Prairie. (Map).
Enter through the main entrance and follow the signs to the Garden Room on the lower level.
Adults and children aged 10 and up (as of the date of the first rehearsal, April 29) are welcome to audition for roles in the show. There are ensemble parts for adults and children. There are featured and lead roles available for ages 18 and up.
Auditions will have dance and vocal components.
Prepare 16 measures of a "traditional" show tune. Bring sheet music in your key; an accompanist will be provided. No a cappella.
Dress for movement. The dance portion is done in small groups.
Brianna Belland, our choreographer, has prepared videos of the dance combinations that will be used in auditions. She will teach these combinations in the auditions, so it is not required to view these, memorize these, or prepare them in advance. But for those who would like to, you can view them at:
Please fill out and submit an audition form. Our audition form is an online form. You will be asked to upload a picture of yourself and a theatrical résumé if you have one. The picture can be a headshot or informal photo of just you, preferably of just head or head and upper torso, in portrait orientation. It must be a JPEG file. The résumé must be a PDF file. If you don’t have either of these files you can still submit the form. You can return to the site and upload either file later. You will get a link for this in a confirmation email after filling out the form. If you have a picture or a résumé but cannot upload it in the required format, you can bring a printed copy to the audition. Check your calendar and enter all rehearsal conflicts you know about. Students and parents of students should check for end-of-school-year events.
