Woodbury Community Theatre is pleased to announce auditions for

Legally Blonde – The Musical - July 21-30 (Ages 16 and up)

Directed by Lenore Weir

Show Overview: A fabulously fun international award-winning musical based on the adored movie, Legally Blonde follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. This action-packed musical explodes on the stage with memorable songs and dynamic dances. Equal parts hilarious and heart-warming, this musical is so much fun, it should be illegal!

Based on the adored movie, Legally Blonde The Musical stays true to form with a peppy score and playful book. This musical is ridiculously enjoyable, from start to finish.

Roles:  Character Breakdown

Elle Woods

The quintessential Valley Girl who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School and realizes that she has more to offer than just a pretty face and a bubbly personality.

Age: 20 to 35

Emmett Forrest

A smart and sensitive law student who takes Elle under his wing. He is charming, quirky, loveable, and friendly.

Age: 20-35


A brash, caring, optimistic hair stylist who is friends with Elle and longs to find a man for herself.

Gender: Female

Age: 20 to 35

Professor Callahan

A pompous, sleazy and manipulative law professor at Harvard who is highly successful, but completely immoral.

Age: 45 to 60

Warner Huntington III

A good-looking but shallow and pompous guy who breaks Elle's heart and heads off to Harvard Law.

Gender: Male

Age: 20 to 35

Vivienne Kensington

A smart, savvy, and uptight law student and Warner's fiancée who initially dismisses Elle, but grows to be her friend.

Gender: Female

Age: 20 to 35

Brooke Wyndam

An exercise video mogul who is also a former sorority girl, she is energetic and charismatic, yet currently on trial for murder.

Age: 20 to 35

Ensemble: Legally Blonde is a large ensemble show.  We seek men and women with dance skills that will play multiple characters ages 16-60: Greek Chorus; Students; Delta Nu Members, Harvard Law Administrators, Parents, Judge, Saleswomen

Audition Dates:

  • Saturday, May 20, 10:00-3:00 pm
  • Sunday, May 21, 1:00-4:00 pm
  • Monday, May 22, 6:30-9:00 pm
  • Callbacks: Thursday, May 24, 7:00-10:00 pm
  • Meet and Greet/Read Through: Thursday, June 1, 7:00-10:00 pm

Audition Information:

  • Auditions are held at Merrill Community Arts Center, 380 Rivertown Drive, Woodbury, MN 55125
  • One must be 16 years old to audition and look like you are 20 years old
  • Please sign-up for an audition slot HERE. 
  • Plan to arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled time and prepare to stay for 30 minutes past your time.
  • Bring sheet music and be prepared to sing 32 bars of an up-tempo song that showcases your vocal range, strength, and comedic capabilities.  Please bring sheet music in the key you wish to sing in and provide all cuts, clearly marked for the accompanist.  You may be asked to sing scales or an excerpt from the show as well.
  • Be prepared to learn choreography.
  • Bring a completed audition form with you, available at sign-up. Include all weekday and weekend conflicts on your audition form. Actors with performance conflicts will not be considered.
  • Please bring a headshot or photo that you do not want returned.  Does not need to be a professional photo.  People will be notified if they are being called back. Not being called back does not mean you are not cast.  Often times, only certain parts need callbacks.  We will let all auditioners know the results via email or phone ASAP prior to the Thursday callbacks.

Rehearsal Information:

Rehearsals will take place both at the Merrill Rivertown Campus and the Loft Stage at East Ridge High School.  Rehearsals will typically be Monday through Friday, with possible Saturdays and Sundays.

  • Saturday, July 22, 7:00pm
  • Sunday, July 23, 3:00pm
  • Thursday, July 27, 7:00 pm (Special Private Performance; tickets not sold to the public.)
  • Friday, July 28, 7:00pm
  • Saturday, July 29, 7:00pm
  • Sunday, July 30, 3:00pm

Volunteer Involvement:

As a volunteer-driven organization, we depend on cast to support crew needs. Each cast member (or member parent, spouse, sibling, friend, etc.) is expected to contribute at least 6 hours of time in helping to support the show by helping build/paint the set, sew costumes, make props, hang up posters, assist with lights and sound, help backstage, usher, house manage, help with refreshments and other tasks that arise.
