Lyric Arts is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion. We are actively seeking a diverse cast of actors for THE SAVANNAH SIPPING SOCIETY. All auditions shall be conducted in a manner that promotes fair consideration to persons of all races, ethnicities, national origins, genders, gender identities, sexual orientations, ages, ability statuses, and body types.

 

Audition Requirements

Interested actors may audition in person or submit an audition online.

Please prepare a 60-second comic/semi-comic monologue from a published work. This monologue should use a dialect if the actor feels comfortable incorporating it. The audition may also include a read of a monologue from the show

Note: The scenic design for this show will be a single, multi-leveled set. There will be a great deal of stage business involving eating and drinking, entrances and exits, and general blocking with detailed business. Actors should feel confident and comfortable with multi-tasking and movement on a multi-leveled set.

 

In-Person Auditions

Tuesday, December 6, 7:00–9:00 p.m.
Wednesday, December 7, 6:30–9:00 p.m.

  • To audition in person, please schedule an audition time and arrive 10–15 minutes prior to your appointed block.

  • Please do not make an appointment unless you are confident you will audition. A limited number of unscheduled auditions may be available for walk-ups.

  • If you cannot attend your scheduled audition, please cancel through the online scheduler so that others may use the time. 

  • Doors will open for registration 15 minutes before the scheduled audition start time; final registration will be accepted 45 minutes before the scheduled audition end time, if walk-up audition appointments are still available at that time.

  • Please come prepared with a headshot (or other non-returnable current photo, a snapshot is fine), resume, and rehearsal conflict sheet.

  • Please note that we cannot accept conflicts for rehearsals between April 5 and April 14, 2023, or for any scheduled performances.

  • Those auditioning in person will be asked to complete our online audition form. You can save time by filling it out in advance now.

Online Audition Submissions

Please submit your resume, headshot, and audition video by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, December 6, using our audition submission form. Please pick and prepare a monologue to record and submit, according to the guidelines above.. 

All artists must be fully vaccinated—those who submit their audition online will be asked to provide proof of vaccination before attending callbacks.

Callback Auditions

Callbacks will be held in person on the evening of Monday, December 12, from 6:00–10:00 p.m., at Lyric Arts Main Street Stage in Anoka. Callbacks will consist of paired readings and work-throughs of monologues from the script.

In order to make efficient use of actors’ time, we will do our best to provide specific callback times for individual artists as they are called back. Depending on the number of actors, callbacks may take up to three hours.

Character Descriptions

  • Randa Covington (40s–50s): A perfectionist and a workaholic. Speaks in a general southern dialect. (Any ethnicity.)

  • Dot Haigler (mid-60s–70): Still reeling from her husband’s demise and loss of their plans for an idyllic retirement. Speaks in an Oklahoma/Texas dialect. (Any ethnicity.)

  • Marlafaye Mosley (mid 50s–60): Earthy and boisterous, a good ol’ rural Texas gal, (Any ethnicity.)

  • Jinx Jenkins (50s): A spunky ball of fire, a new-to-town life coach. May have hints of southern dialect, but it has softened over the years as she has lived many places. (Any ethnicity.)

 

COVID-19 Safety

COVID-19 safety precautions will be followed. These protocols may include masking, extra sanitization, daily temperature screenings, and/or weekly testing schedules. Precautions and protocols may be increased at any time, based on current case levels.

 

All artists must be fully vaccinated to audition. “Fully vaccinated” will be defined as being 14 days beyond your COVID-19 booster. Those who audition in person will be asked to provide proof of full vaccination at check-in. For online submissions, actors will be required to provide photographic proof of full vaccination at the time of submission.
