About the Show:
How do you choose to kill in cold blood, even if the cause is just? How do you face motherhood in old age? How can you support a revolutionary movement when your male counterparts silence your voice? Following the structure of medieval mystery (or biblical morality) plays, The Womyn’s Mysteries takes the often skewed and brief stories of the women in the Judeo-Christian bible, and adapts, deepens, and expands them into a rich, honest, and powerful production. By approaching these epic tales from a contemporary vantage point, The Womyn’s Mysteries connects the challenges that women face today to ancient archetypes, and, ultimately, the continually unfolding story of the multi-faceted identity and collective power of women.
Please note: While the Judeo-Christian bible is the reference point for this play, this production treats the characters and stories as archetypal and fictional. This play does not promote a specific religious belief or agenda, and does not require any particular belief or faith (other than “women are awesome”).
Devising rehearsals will take place in late May and June (roughly 3-6 hours a week) with full production rehearsals running 5 days a week, starting in July (No rehearsals over Memorial Day weekend or July 4th). Most rehearsals will be at the Phoenix Theater.
Performances will take place at the Minnsky Theater August 4 at 5:30pm, August 6 at 8:30pm, August 8 at 10:00pm, August 11 at 7:00pm, and August 12 at 2:30pm. Tech TBD.
Stipends paid for the development period as well as the production period.
