This fascinating lyric opera deals with unrequited love and social class conflicts among four young people in Russia, circa 1820, although the drama has deep contemporary resonances.  A shy country girl becomes infatuated with an arrogant visitor from the big city...What tragic consequences await an indolent narcissist, whose overbearing sense of privilege harms everyone around him?

Note: auditioners are requested to prepare a musical selection, in English, which best demonstrates their range and abilities for the audition.
