The Guthrie Theater seeks a full-time House Supervisor to join our Audience Services team. The House Supervisor is responsible for the smooth operation of the house before, during, and after performances and special events.

THE POSITION
The House Supervisor’s primary role is providing supervision of the front of house operations at show time and assisting the House Manager and/or the Associate House Manager in ensuring the smooth operation of the house before, during and after performances and special events.  This position will work closely and collaboratively in Audience Services supporting hiring, onboarding, and training of the usher staff. In addition, this position works in collaboration with Box Office, Production, Guest Services and Facilities management to ensure smooth operation of all performances’ front of house needs.  All employees are expected to center, model and champion the Guthrie’s core values of Artistic Excellence; Community; Equity, Diversity and Inclusion; and Fiscal Responsibility.  

This position is full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt (hourly) and benefits-eligible. Compensation for this position is $15.95 – $19.23 per hour plus benefits. The typical schedule for this role is Wednesday – Sunday, 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1.    Operations Support
•    Provide guidance and supervision to Front of House staff during performances or special events; ensure all established procedures are being followed.
•    Complete all tasks and reports related to show supervision.
•    Coordinate patron special requests with Box Office staff.
•    Advise on staffing levels for performances.
•    Assist the House Manager and Associate House Manager with customer service and emergency procedure training of ushering staff.
•    Support the House Manager and/or Associate House Manager in overseeing the theater houses prior to, during and following performances.  
•    Work with Box Office and the Stage Manager to coordinate opening and closing the house, handing over the house, late seating or any reseating necessary.
•    Brief staff and volunteers regarding their roles for a performance or event.
•    Serve as, or assist, lobby manager to ensure smooth lobby traffic and seating of patrons.
•    Address patron and usher issues; work with other staff (Security, Box Office, Stage Management) for resolution as needed.
•    As needed, prepare and distribute end of show house reports detailing the audience numbers for that performances as well as any audience issues.
•    Assist with planning departmental meetings. 
•    Understand and follow all safety protocols, implement theater’s emergency plan if required and respond effectively to emergency situations. 
•    Complete other duties as assigned.

2.    Stakeholder Support
•    Provide exceptional customer service to patrons. Take every possible step to ensure that customers have a welcoming and positive experience, even in difficult situations.  Handle issues in an equitable, professional and courteous manner. 
•    Model a polite and professional demeanor when interacting with customers and colleagues. 
•    Provide guests with accurate, up-to-date information about the Guthrie’s productions, programs and building.
•    Share themes and feedback from audience/patrons with the House Manager.

3.    Financial Support
•    Assist the House Manager by assessing and communicating staffing level in order to stay within identified guidelines.

4.    Talent Support
•    Assist in supervision and motivation for part-time staff and volunteers during run of show.
•    Assist the House Manager and Audience Services Coordinator with onboarding, staff training and meetings.  
•    Assist with staff development by monitoring employee productivity and providing feedback to the House Manager and Associate House Manager.
•    Inform the House Manager and Associate House Manager of any staffing conflicts and concerns. 

5.    Strategy Support
•    Assist in fostering a work environment incorporating the Guthrie values of Artistic Excellence; Community; Equity, Diversity and Inclusion; and Fiscal Responsibility.
•    Share observations of current processes and practices to assist in identifying areas for improvement in house management. 
•    Assist the House Manager in implementing the Guthrie’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion values into the day-to-day operations. 
•    Assist in implementing the Guthrie mission, vision, core values and initiatives in House Management practices.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS 
•    Demonstrated supervisory experience preferred.
•    Working knowledge of front of house practices.
•    Experience in working with different types of audiences.
•    Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to efficiently and effectively resolve issues, frequently in a time-sensitive environment.
•    Takes initiative, exercises independent judgement and works collaboratively within a team and across departments.
•    Remains calm in demanding situations.
•    Collaborates effectively to achieve common goals, be a strong team player and to contribute energy, creativity and enthusiasm.
•    Seeks innovative solutions to improve systems, process and future planning. 
•    Experience in Microsoft Office products preferred.
•    Experience, ability, and commitment to working with individuals and teams that are mixed across lines of difference such as race, gender-identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class and immigrant status.
•    Must be willing and able to work flexible hours/days, including evenings and weekends, reflective of the dynamic schedule of the theater.
