Job Title: Performing Arts Instructor- Music focus

Reports To:  Performing Arts Department Manager
                       Artistic/Executive Director

Status: 3 days a week, 24  hours a week (8:30a-4:30p), exact schedule to be determined with department manager upon hire. Some weekend and evening hours required for performances ( this may change with Virtual Interact)
Direct service responsibilities.

Pay Rate: $20 - $22 per  hour

Position Description:

  • This position serves primarily as a theatre instructor for an estimated 32 artists enrolled in the Interact Performing Arts program, and serves as a personal advocate for a sub-set of 4 artists within the program. This position is expected to have some administrative acumen - Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Zoom/online meeting platforms - to plan and communicate efficiently. We prioritize candidates that have an active personal arts practice, as this best upholds Interact’s organizational values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively plan, organize, facilitate, and actively participate in day-to-day artistic programming with team of other theater department staff artists; attend weekly Performing Arts staff meetings; develop, teach, and participate in workshops; maintain artist to staff ratio within the whole organization; other Performing Arts administrative duties as needed.
  • Position requires schedule adjustment twice annually for shows (estimated 4 weeks each run), plus schedule adjustments as needed for additional performance opportunities.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of all theater activities including private (invited) performances for conferences and other special events.
  • Provide music direction and accompaniment as necessary
  • Serve as key advocate for an assigned group of client artists with a range of disabilities, including but not limited to cognitive, physical, and developmental disabilities. Serve as a mentor and instructor for client artists; set annual goals, and maintain monthly logs for each client. Uphold organizational system for client information and maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and DHS rules and regulations.
  • Participate in all required social services and state licensing training including but not limited to: CPR/AED and first aid training, bloodborne pathogens training, and medication certification (when applicable). Follow all policies and procedures to ensure client artists are in a safe and supportive environment at all times.
  • Remain professionally connected with the larger theatre community, integrating Interact’s work with the mainstream arts community.
  • Demonstrate oral and written communication skills with colleagues, artists, families, health professionals, community agencies, and units of government.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • MFA, BA, and other related experience.
  • Candidates will ideally have an active artistic practice of their own.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team environment, strong interpersonal skills required.
  • All candidates must pass a required background check prior to hiring.

Benefit Summary:
As a part time employee, you are not eligible for Interact’s health and dental. You are; however, eligible to participate in the 403B retirement program after 1000 hours of work, and the AFLAC disability insurance program. You will also accrue vacation based on the total hours worked and sick and holiday time. The details will be discussed during your interview.
