POSITION: Technical Director for Proving Up

Journey North Opera Company is looking for a Technical Director for our upcoming production of Proving Up.

Position Details:

TD will be responsible for Scenic Design, and oversight of construction - will have one assistant designer/builder. 

TD will be responsible for oversight of lighting designer

TD will be expected to collaborate with Stage and Music Directors throughout the process to ensure a cohesive end result.

TD will be expected to attend 1-3 creative team meetings over the summer/early fall to align on design

First scenic design due August 7, 2022. 

Scenic Draft due September 15, 2022.

Director’s Note

Russell’s story is a surreal and haunting commentary on the American dream as experienced by the Zegners, a fictional family of 1860s homesteaders. This narrative feels newly relevant at this fraught moment in my nation’s history, when people are examining and reevaluating the achievability of the American Dream. The Zegners are a family that does everything “right” and are still undermined by forces beyond their control.The story’s surrealism suggests a music unmoored from time; the score includes imagined fiddle tunes, Baroque gestures, scrap metal percussion, seven acoustic guitars, eight harmonicas and harpsichord in addition to the chamber ensemble.
