'Spring Awakening' is a Tony, Drama Desk and Grammy Award winning musical with music by Duncan Sheik and libretto/lyrics by Steven Sater. This rock musical champions the story of teenagers struggling against inherited societal impositions of sex and sexuality, gender, and adulthood. 'Spring Awakening' is loosely adapted from the German play 'Spring Awakening: A Children's Tragedy' by Frank Wedekind, which premiered in 1906, and has a complicated production history of banning and censorship.

This production will embrace a streamlined, theatrical style with actor-instrumentation. (Not all cast members play instruments, and actors who do not play instruments are strongly encouraged to submit their materials.) This play includes themes and depictions of sex, sexual violence, and suicide. Actors who would like further clarification and/or who have any other questions about the production process are welcome and encouraged to ask any specific questions as useful when submitting materials.
