Job Title:               Marketing and Communications Associate

Reports to:            Marketing Manager

Classification:       Full-time, non-exempt

Hours:                    40 hours/week

Salary:                    $34,000-$36,000, depending on qualifications, and a generous benefits package (paid vacation, sick days, health, dental, vision, flex spending, life/disability insurance, 403b)

Summary:

This position strengthens Minnesota Opera by providing project management and administrative support; creating marketing, communications, and development content; and executing and tracking tactics as specified in marketing and communications plans for various multi-channel campaigns to achieve departmental and institutional goals. The position supports the Opera’s anti-racism and anti-oppression goals and has a key focus on generating original content for Minnesota Opera’s digital platforms that engages current and future audiences and fosters curiosity and fandom for Minnesota Opera to support its mission.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

Project management (40%)

  • Facilitates and advances select projects achieving specific project objectives and meeting final deliverables that are constrained to a finite timescale and budget.
  • Works closely with Graphic Designer to coordinate requesting, proofing, and on-time delivery of ads and collateral.
  • Manages the production of all performance programs.
  • Serves as point-person for project management software Smartsheets.

Administrative support (30%)

  • Supports the Marketing and Development departments in scheduling meetings, processing invoices, and updating finance documents, data entry, server organization, and other duties as assigned.
  • Helps facilitate design requests, list requests, and promo requests both within the department and cross-departmentally.

Content creation and distribution (30%)

  • Writes, edits, copyedits, compiles, and proofreads textual material for Minnesota Opera communications (across departments) for print and the website, including marketing materials, brochures, flyers, postcards, institutional communications, community reports, annual report, exhibition materials, invitations, and signage.
  • Interfaces with various departments in gathering communications materials.
  • Supports the creation and posting of social media content.
  • Supports and protects the Minnesota Opera brand by ensuring positive and relevant messaging.
  • Incorporates the Opera’s anti-racism and anti-oppression initiatives into day-to-day responsibilities and tasks.

 

This position is a good fit for someone who:

  • Has a BA/BS in Communications, Marketing, or equivalent and at least one year experience in marketing or communications.
  • Is goal oriented, organized, and deadline driven.
  • Works well in a fast-paced and collaborative environment
  • Communicates clearly and concisely and has exemplary writing, editing, and copy proofing skills.
  • Is interested in learning new skills, is proactive, and asks questions
  • Knows and uses Microsoft Office; is adept at learning new programs and technology
  • Is able to work some nights and weekends, as required by the Opera’s performance schedule and sales cycles.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively to achieve department and organizational goals.
  • Maintains a positive, productive attitude working with media, staff, artists, volunteers, and patrons.
  • Passion for the arts. Basic understanding of opera and/or classical music preferred.

MN Opera is willing to teach:

  • Opera as an artform and associated MN Opera products, including subscriptions, single tickets, related events, and ancillaries.
  • Industry-specific marketing skills and existing procedures for design requests, art delivery, scheduling, promotions, and data management.
  • CRM database processes and procedures.

 

Please Note:

The applicant will be expected either to reside within commuting distance of the Opera Center or be willing to relocate prior to beginning work to participate in a hybrid work environment (three days a week onsite). If hired, the applicant will be required to prove they are up to date, per the CDC, with their COVID vaccinations or have a valid religious or medical reason not to be vaccinated.
