Minneapolis Musical Theatre Virtual Auditions for STRIKING 12

Rate of Pay:

Minneapolis Musical Theatre is accepting virtual audition submissions from non-Equity performers for Striking 12 by Brendan Milburn, Rachel Sheinkin, and Valerie Vigoda, to be performed at the Gremlin Theatre December 2-18, 2022 with a possible extension to January 1 (if the production is extended there will be no performances Dec. 19-28). Rehearsals are expected to begin in mid-October (dates and location TBD). Striking 12 is inspired, in part, by Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Match Girl” and tells the story of a grumpy, overworked New Yorker who resolves to spend New Year’s Eve alone in his apartment when an unexpected visitor brings some much-needed cheer. The evening springs to life through an eclectic score that combines pop, rock, jazz, showtunes, and more.

The production will be Co-Directed by Kari Steinbach and Joe Hendren with Music Direction by Jean Orbison Van Heel.

We are seeking a diverse, multiracial flexible ensemble of performers for this show. We are especially interested in performers who both sing and play an instrument (in particular violin, cello, guitar, bass, and drums - but we welcome submissions with other instruments as well and the ability to play an instrument is not a requirement). We encourage all performers, age 18+ to audition - especially BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ performers. We are committed to a socially conscious and equitable casting process and strive to ensure that our productions increasingly reflect that.

Those cast will be paid a stipend of $650, which includes the initially scheduled 12 performances. If additional performances are scheduled, the pay will be increased at a rate of $40/performance.

We are requiring all eligible individuals to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (completed course of vaccine doses + booster) to be cast. Individuals will be asked to disclose proof of vaccination (completed course + 2 weeks) by the time any Callbacks take place or before an offer is made. Proof of booster shot will be required before rehearsals begin if not provided earlier. Owing to the current state of the COVID-19 crisis, masks will be worn by all individuals in the rehearsals. If current metrics related to the virus do not improve adequately by the time rehearsals start, we will consider additional precautions in rehearsals. At this time, audience members will be masked and required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID lab test, though precautions may be lifted if conditions sufficiently improve.

To audition, complete each of the following steps.

STEP 1) Record yourself SINGING one song (at least 32 bars). For your song, accompanied or a backing track is preferred, but given the short turnaround time and state of COVID-19 a cappella submissions will be accepted. If you would like to audition PLAYING an instrument, you may either record a second song (at least 32 bars) or accompany yourself on your sung audition piece. Upload the video to a site like Youtube, Vimeo, Google Drive, or a personal website and send us the link.

STEP 2) Download the audition form attached to this posting (should be visible at bottom of posting) and complete it.

STEP 3) Include a digital copy of your resume (PDF preferred) and headshot.

Email all of the above to [email protected] by 8PM ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28.

Callbacks will be held in person the evening of October 2.
