Position Title: Assistant Facilities Manager

Department: Production

Reports to: Technical and Facilities Director

Classification: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt

Salary Range: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour; Commensurate with experience; 20 hours per week; additional time as approved by TFD



Assistant Facilities Manager (AFM), under the direction of the Technical and Facilities Director (TFD), assists with the maintenance of MNOP’s campus of properties, including the Minnesota Opera Center, The Luminary, and the Minnesota Opera Warehouse, along with its affiliated parking areas and grounds, to ensure a workspace that is safe and functional. In consultation with the TFD and the Facilities Manager, the AFM assists with the inspecting and reporting on facilities and security monitoring, building maintenance and upkeep, and acts as a liaison with commercial contractors working on site. Key to the position is the ability to communicate and collaborate with all facets associated with MNOP’s operations. Duties are performed on part-time basis with work generally happening from 2p – 6p, with opportunities for schedule flexibility, Monday through Friday. This position works with a facilities team comprised of the TFD, Assistant Technical and Facilities Director (ATFD) and Facilities Manager (FM).



Include but are not limited to:

Facilities (65%)

  • Monitor the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas, such as office, conference rooms, parking lots, and outdoor spaces belonging to MNOP
  • Perform routine maintenance on buildings and grounds and make repairs as needed
  • Recommend maintenance, mechanical, electrical and facility modifications to TFD
  • Work with TFD to schedule routine inspections and emergency repairs with outside vendors
  • Ensure facilities meet government regulations and environmental, health, and security standards
  • Oversight of security for buildings and grounds
  • Potential response to after-hour issues as scheduled and/or deemed necessary by the TFD
  • Create reports on maintenance, repairs, safety and other occurrences
  • In collaboration with TFD and ATFD, review completed work by vendors and contractors
  • Communicate workplace safety precautions and facility disruptions to TFD and ATFD
  • Works with TFD on code compliance issues, accessibility improvement projects and other code related issues
  • In collaboration with the TFD and ATFD purchase general building supplies as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Management (30%)

  • Reads show reports, rehearsal schedules, weekly company schedule and company calendars. In consultation with the TFD, follow up on appropriate notes
  • Attend facilities team meetings as required
  • Participate in new employee on boarding with regards to building access and security as required
  • Acknowledge and work within the procedures and policies of the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota Opera and I.A.T.S.E Local 13
  • Other duties as assigned

  • In collaboration with APD assist in the development of production department vendor analysis tracking as it pertains to MNOP’s EDI goals

  • Give support and show appreciation to the Board of Directors, patrons, and other volunteers and supporters of Minnesota Opera
  • Maintain complete knowledge of Minnesota Opera’s Safety, Health, and Emergency Action Handbook, including procedures for accidents and injuries.



  • Excellent judgment and analytical abilities
  • Working knowledge with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite of products
  • Understanding of OSHA and other regulations
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to collaborate with a variety of colleagues from performers to management
  • Ability to work and think independently, a motivated self-starter who also works well in a larger team



  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary
  • Ability to utilize and troubleshoot various building equipment
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other office equipment
  • Ability to utilize and troubleshoot tools and maintenance equipment
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather
  • Ability to utilize snow removal equipment and resources
  • Ability to position oneself in a stooping, kneeling, or crouching manner
  • Ability to ascends/descends ladders and personnel lifts
  • Ability to work at heights while doing general maintenance
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to consistently lift and move materials or equipment up to 75 lbs
